The Profs ended their season with a bang as they beat The College of New Jersey (TCNJ) in a comeback win with a score of 24-20.

The Profs were trailing 20-3 in the fourth quarter and scored three straight touchdowns to beat TCNJ.

Mike Husni had the best game of his collegiate career going 23-32 with three passing touchdowns, all coming in the fourth quarter. He has been named the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Offensive Player of the Week.

Husni ranked second in passing efficiency (145.3) in the NJAC. Not bad for a first-year starter in a new program.

He finished his first season as a Prof with 1,802 passing yards, 15 touchdowns and nine interceptions. Husni also rushed for 396 yards and six touchdowns on the year.

This year was a learning experience for the young quarterback and he’s only getting better.

“When you get to be a dual-threat, it makes it tough on defense,” said head coach Jay Accorsi. “I think he learned what we want him to do and we learned what he’s really good at and what he likes to do.”

This year was not a promising one for the Profs but it was a building experience for this young team and coaching staff.

“This year is definitely a learning year and a learning experience for me and many of the offensive players,” said Husni. “The offensive line was young, Messiah Divine is a first-year starter and Johnny Maldonado was also in his first year starting. We’re definitely going to come into next year with more experience so next year should be a better year.”

Divine leads the NJAC in rushing with 784 yards on the season in his first year starting. Maldonado turned a lot of heads this season with 468 receiving yards and two touchdowns.

The record might not show it but this team improved a lot from last season. They were mostly in every game but, like every young team, they have their struggles.

“This is a very gritty team. Beside the Sailsbury game, we were in every game and they always fought to the end,” Accorsi said. “I think we improved from last year to this year even though the record is different. I’m really looking forward to seeing what we can do going forward.”

Next year, Rowan will be putting out an experienced quarterback with pieces around him. Look for more wins to come in 2020.
