A quiet Tuesday night in town turned rowdy Tuesday evening as officers from the Glassboro Police Department engaged in an incident with a suspect who claimed he was carrying a weapon.

According to the release provided by the department on its Facebook page, officers were dispatched to a local business by the corner of Rowan Boulevard and Redmond Avenue around 8:42 p.m. Reports from the business indicated that there was one male who may have possibly been in possession of a weapon. While on the way to the scene, officers were advised that the suspect claimed to have a gun.

Once they arrived on the scene, officers spotted a male suspect inside the store matching the description of the suspect provided by employees. After the suspect exited the store, the police arrested him without incident.

Glassboro Deputy Chief John Polillo stressed in a phone interview Wednesday the incident was not a robbery.

The suspect was identified as 49-year-old Edward Dupont from Camden, New Jersey. After being apprehended, Dupont was found to have illegal narcotics and drug paraphernalia in his possession. He also had several outstanding warrants to his name.

Dupont was charged with making terroristic threats, disorderly conduct, and several other drug charges. He was sent to the Salem County Jail to be detained, pending a hearing.
