The Office of Volunteerism and the Student Government Association hosted the seventh annual Back to the Boro event Sunday afternoon.
After meeting in the parking lot near the Richard Wackar Stadium, students went out into the Glassboro community to help residents who needed assistance with a variety of tasks around their homes, including gardening and raking. Volunteers were supplied with all the tools they needed to complete the work at their assigned location.
Most students attended the event through a club, Greek organization or other campus group, though there was an option to participate as an individual.
After they helped people around town, the volunteers and those they aided were invited to come back to the parking lot. There, they enjoyed food, music and each other’s company.

“The goal, like every year for Back to the Boro, is to bring Rowan closer to the community…because we do live here 10 months of the year, basically, and we like to give back to the community as much as we can,” said Naveen Khan, the graduate coordinator for the Office of Volunteerism and one of the event coordinators.
Rowan Music Group provided music for the event for the second time this year, featuring several artists who are a part of the Rowan record label.
Khan said she hopes the event expands to help not only Glassboro residents, but those who live in surrounding towns like Pitman as well.
