It was a tough loss for Rowan football on Saturday.

The team held on for as long as they could, cutting a 14-0 lead against Linfield to 14-7 after a gutsy 4th and goal call. It resulted in a great play from quarterback Mike Husni who dashed to his right, then dashed to his left when pressure was coming and delivered a very sharp pass to Elijah Rehm on the last play of the first half.

That gave Rowan all the momentum going into the half.

In the second half, the Profs tied the game on a 30 yard run from Messiah Devine, but things went downhill after that.

The defense played well, considering they were playing a quarterback who was clearly very experienced and very comfortable in the pocket, only giving up 14 points in the first half and intercepted the ball twice. While the coaches should be encouraged by what they saw from the defensive unit, but they still have things to work on.

The offense, however, had a bit of a tough time. After not being able to get anything going until the final drive of the first half, I was hoping to see that momentum they gained carry deep into the second half.

The offense turned the ball over three times, including one in the red zone and another on their own 30.

The final score, 35-14 Linfield, was hard on everyone.

Despite the struggles on offense, though, I still think the score doesn’t tell the whole story. I believe the coaches should be encouraged by what they saw from the offense, as well as their sophomore quarterback, because while they only scored 14 points, they moved the ball much better in the second half than they did in the first and the team is still very young.

Even with the 0-2 start, I do believe that the team is headed in the right direction. I was impressed that for a young team they were able to hang in with more experienced teams like Widener and Linfield.

The season is still early, and It’s only been 2 games. There is still plenty of time, but the time is now to forget about it and move on to the next one.

  1. […] My name is Connor Mason and I am a student here at Rowan University. My major is journalism, and I’m trying to be a writer. Therefore, I am trying as many things as I can here at Rowan University. One of them is being a reporter. For this site, I will be giving all the Rowan students, fans, and parents of the football team exclusive coverage and what is going on. I am new with this major and I probably won’t be perfect, but one thing I can promise you all is truth and honesty. I will always be honest and I will always tell it like it is. Even if it comes off as a bit negative, my only reasoning is to help Improve Rowan football and to give it any ideas I can. I will also be trying to Improve the atmosphere around it. I will do this by encouraging students in my articles on this website to come out and support. Not only will it bring a more electric energy to the team, but It will also be fun and bring more school spirit to Rowan University. 2. […] We are through the first month of the season, and currently, The Rowan Profs are sitting at 0-3, https://njacsports.com/standings.aspx?standings=188 either staring 0-4 in the eye or getting their first win of the season and getting right back on track. Luckily, after a tough month, the team had a bye week this past Saturday and had extra time to prepare when they return on the 5th of October to play Wesley, who is ranked 12th in the state right now https://www.rowanathletics.com/news/2019/10/4/football-returns-to-action-at-wesley-on-saturday.aspx?path=football. The team has fought hard, but has just fallen a bit shy on the results they want. Part of the reason, in my opinion, is because they are a young team. I got a bit more specific into that here _thewhitonline.com/2019/09/sports/mason-no-need-to-worry-about-rowan-football-after-second-straight-loss/?fbclid=IwAR0OqyDfhVuiDtAZN0EMwMWdLl4mOYumsh0T5S7lt0ASdvsm9kZhynu_Ry4. The team has faced much adversity this season and also just bad luck, including a 17-3 lead over Hobart crushed as Hobart came back and won https://www.rowanathletics.com/news/2019/9/21/hobart-rallies-to-down-football-on-late-field-goal-20-17.aspx?path=football. Although things look pretty grim from where the football team currently stands, I believe there is reason to believe that Rowan could shock the nation and take down Wesley to not only get their first win of the season, but to also completely change the direction and momentum that the team currently is in and where they can go, and as of now, others seem to believe that can happen too. https://www.thewhitonline.com/2019/10/sports/football-is-ready-to-bounce-back-after-their-bye/ […]
