Rowan After Hours held its annual Classy Casino Night on Saturday, which featured students that were dressed their best and ready to test their luck. Coinciding with the Winter Ball, both events served as an opportunity for students to make new friends and memories.
The Student Center was made to feel like an actual casino; multiple tables were set up all around where students could play casino games like roulette and poker. Poker chips were exchanged for casino money and dealers were ready to hand out cards, spin the wheel and give helpful tips on how games are played.
“We have a really good turnout, especially since there is another event going on upstairs,” said Brandon West, a graduate coordinator for RAH. “It’s just an opportunity for students to play casino games in a safe environment, and they don’t have to worry about losing real money.”
West continued, “It’s a lot of fun for everyone, they really enjoy it. They have played the entire night, and they have some pretty awesome prizes.”
Skylar Moody, a junior journalism major, attended the Winter Ball and had a chance to come downstairs to check out the scene.
“I enjoy watching everything that’s going on down here. I would love to learn how to play one of these games, but for now I just like to see everyone else having a good time,” Moody said.
Though RAH hosts a casino night every year, the theme of the event changes often.
“This [year] is a classy casino night just to coincide with the Winter Ball going on upstairs. People are already dressed up, so they can just come down here and play and not feel out of place when they are in full suits and dresses,” West said.
Anthony Luciano, a sophomore mechanical engineering major, went to casino night with a close group of friends he met freshman year.
“We’ve had a small group going here for the past year. Ever since we were freshmen, we have been doing this,” Luciano said.
Hannah Spronz, a junior studio art major and the DIY project coordinator for RAH, had a hand in planning for casino night.
“I think tonight went really well. I think people had a lot of fun and I think it was very successful,” Spronz said.
