Rowan’s rugby club faced the University of Delaware Blue Hens for their second game of the season, Saturday, Oct. 2. After a dominant performance against Temple on Sept. 25, Rowan looked to keep the momentum going. As evident from their 44-17 victory.

An early score put the team on top thanks to Grant Howell piling his way for five.

A drop goal scored by Hunter Musson extended Rowan’s lead to 10-3. Delaware was able to climb back, making it a 10-10 game.

From then on, it was pure domination as Rowan pounded on the points with strong play. Akil Debruhl, a senior, had two tries with 10 points. Johnny Mitchell, a senior, also added ten points, bringing the score to 29-10 at the end of the first half.

The Blue Hens attempted to play offensively, but Rowan successfully stopped Delaware multiple times at the goal line.

This win for the Profs improved their record to 2-0. Chase Shebey, the team captain, talked about how they were able to put together this strong win.

“They were bigger, but I feel like we played tougher,” Shebey said. “We do a lot of fitness and I feel like our guys played a great game.”

Head Coach Tim Smith was proud of his team being able to come up with a victory.

“We went into this game blind because no rugby teams got started till around the third week of August,” Coach Smith said. “I felt like we really took control early and that really set the tone for the rest of the game.”

This win places Rowan into the 24th position of the Men’s Division I Rugby League. The Prof’s next game will be on Saturday, Oct. 9, in Glassboro. Where they will face off against St. Joe’s University.
