On Saturday, Feb. 19, Rowan After Hours (RAH) fitted the Student Center with putting greens, blacklights and beverage stands to host their Milkshakes & Mini Golf night.
Students on campus made their way to the Student Center Pit to sink hole-in-ones and satisfy their sweet tooth. RAH partnered with two private vendors, Maui Wowi and Any Excuse For a Party, to help facilitate the relaxing atmosphere, according to grad coordinator Sydney Hartman.
Since the spring semester is in full swing, RAH plans to host monthly events similar to Milkshakes & Mini Golf, hoping to instill a sense of calm in the midst of a hectic school schedule.
On Saturday, RAH accomplished that goal by setting up nine holes surrounding the pit and concluding with a free milkshake stand upon the course’s completion.
“‘Milkshakes & Mini Golf’ just flowed really nicely, so we contacted and got vendors, one for each,” Hartman said.
Maui Wowi, a Hawaiin coffee and smoothie franchise, treated those in attendance with a selection of milkshake flavors: Vanilla Bean, Double Chocolate and Creamy Cappuccino.
Established in 1983, Maui Wowi has grown to be one of the most well-known smoothie curators in the world. They currently have two locations in New Jersey, one in Cherry Hill and one in Clayton. The beverage shop prides itself on its low-fat, all-natural ingredients, but students were unfazed, often going up for seconds. They offered organic lemonade and iced tea for those seeking refreshments.
Any Excuse For A Party provided the mini gold equipment for the event and had worked with RAH in the past.
“They came up and set up the whole blacklight system,” Hartman said, referring to the holes that were dimly illuminated, creating the ultimate mini-golf aesthetic.
The event service company is based in northeast New Jersey and has been operating for almost three decades.
After grabbing their milkshakes, students made their way to the pit to relax, playing different games and activities. Mario Kart, Giant Jenga and cornhole were some of the activities on hand for students to play once completing the golf course.
“We wanted something fun students could do on the weekends,” Hartman said. “Something that’s not educational.”
