After last season’s success; which included another New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) title and All-Atlantic Region Track and Field (AARTFC) Conference Championship, the Rowan men’s outdoor track and field team is ready to get back outdoors. While the team dominated throughout the course of the indoor season, head coach Dustin Dimit believes that the best is yet to come for his team.
“ We always are a better outdoor team because there are a lot of different events,” said Dimit. “With the 400 hurdles, we’re always really good at that, so looking forward to how those guys are doing.”
The Profs will be led by Jason Agyemang, who took home the National Championship in hurdles during the indoor season, as well as first place in the 60-meter hurdles (7.76) at the NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships. He’s ready to achieve a lot more during the outdoor season.
“I’m ready to go at it on the 400 hurdles,” said Agyemang. “Hopefully 51 highs or 50 lows this season. Gonna go out there and show myself off in the hurdles, and I’m still hungry for the one tens. Got second place last year.”
The team will also see freshman Jamir Brown make his outdoor track and field debut for the team this season. The Riverside native, who finished in second place in the 60-meter hurdles (7.80) at the NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships, is looking to stay as healthy as possible going into the season to achieve his goals.
“That’s my number one priority right now, staying healthy and then reaching my goals,” Brown said. “ I’m trying to improve at becoming a natural sprinter without the hurdles. I’m trying to like, become faster without the hurdles in 60 meters.”
While the team had their first meet on March 21 at the UCF Black and Gold Classic in Orlando, Florida, the Profs’ first meet with the whole team will be on March 28 and 29 at the Danny Curran Invitational in Chester, Pennsylvania. Dimit is ready for a great season and eager to see everyone evolve this season.
“ We always just wanna see everybody get better,” said Dimit. “The places and that kind of stuff take care of themselves, so we just wanna see them continue to get better every meet, and have a great season.”
