Rowan men’s outdoor track and field crushed the competition at the Ursinus Track & Field Festival in Collegeville, Pennsylvania, on Saturday, April 5.
While there was no team scoring at the meet, the Profs were able to produce some top Division III results. Head coach Dustin Dimit was highly pleased with his team’s performance despite some unfortunate weather conditions.
“ We were happy,” said Dimit. “We had a lot of people who won events, a lot of personal bests, and it wasn’t great weather. So getting all those good results was a positive experience and a good meet.”
The Profs were led by the 4×400 relay as freshman Luke Halbruner, sophomore Teddy Wilson, junior Jason Agyemang, and senior James Coleman recorded a top-25 Division III time of 3:18.80 to take home first place. Wilson, who was the second leg of the relay team, was motivated by his teammates going into the meet.
“Run for each other, to have each other’s back, and just give it our all,” said Wilson.
Another highlight from the meet was freshman Angel Gonzalez’ first-place performance in the 400-meter hurdles (55.47). Gonzalez had family on his mind throughout the week leading up to the meet.
“I lost my grandma earlier in the week, and I was just trying to get through that all week,” said Gonzalez. “Then just trying to keep my head down and try to focus through that, and then just get into the race day knowing that her watching over me just helped me kick and helped me have the extra strength to finish home.”
Dimit emphasized how important his performance was over the weekend.
“Him going out there and being able to beat some of the other guys on our team that are ranked top-15 in the country is big,” said Dimit.
The Profs had only one person running in the 5000-meter race, as junior Anthony Faust claimed first place with a personal record time of 15:23.32. Faust, who won his second collegiate race over the weekend, was motivated by both the men’s and women’s teams supporting him.
“I had my team there rooting for me, the men’s team, the women’s team,” said Faust. “And it just helped me get through and win it.”
The team will be back in action this Saturday as the Profs host the ninth-annual Oscar Moore Invitational in Glassboro, New Jersey, at Coach Richard Wackar Stadium. Dimit is excited to compete at home and is ready to test out the new track.
“We always love competing at home, and we’re excited to be able to compete on our newly surfaced track for the first time,” said Dimit.
