The magical run for the No. 23 Rowan women’s lacrosse ended on Saturday, May 17, in Waterville, Maine, against No. 7 Wesleyan (CT) in the third round of the NCAA Division III Women’s Lacrosse Championships.
Wesleyan (15-5) defeated the Profs 16-4 behind 13 straight goals to start the game. Senior Calista Burke stopped the run with 9:27 in the third for her career-best 57th goal of season.
Elaina Corson followed up with two goals in the fourth quarter to set a Rowan single season record for goals with 84. The junior talked about the culture of the Rowan women’s lacrosse program, saying they were together on a united front.
“Our culture and togetherness goes into every game.” Corson said. “We just trust each other so much and make a commitment to one another. That’s what we relied on all season.”
Wesleyan had nine different goal scorers and 35 shots in the contest that now pushes them to the Elite Eight. They will match up against No. 4 Colby on Sunday, May 18.
Many contributing seniors played their last game in a Rowan uniform, including Molly Green. The midfielder finished her Rowan career at the top of many categories that include draw controls (370), ground balls (218), and caused turnovers (156). Green saw the program’s identity change for the program.
“I think our togetherness is our identity. We had to go through some really horrible games and horrible losses last year,” Green said. “Every single person that was able to return this season chose to. I think that just shows that even though we have to go through a lot of rough times, we never turn on each other. That allowed us to be as successful as we were this season.”
Green also scored 160 goals in her career, which puts her in the top 10 of career goals in the program. Head Coach Lindsey Delaney thanks Green and the six other seniors for helping change the core of the program this season.
“We have some outstanding senior leadership,” Delaney said. “The seniors bounded together, all seven of them, with a relentless commitment and pursuit of excellence off the field with our community service and academics. It led to our success on the field. At the core our program is really strong and healthy, and I’m really proud of them for that.”
The seniors on this team included Calista Burke, Green, Sydney Helmick, Hannah Lombardo, Sophia Schiavo, and Mel Rodgers. Delaney was also able to reflect on what her players and the program accomplished in 2025.
“They did things that we haven’t done in almost seven years. We haven’t made the NCAA tournament since 2018. Some of the girls were in middle school in 2018,” Delaney said. “It’s been a long road and our program needed to rejuvenate ourselves at the core and inside the locker room”
The Rowan women’s lacrosse team lost by their widest margin of the season against Wesleyan (CT).
“Today’s game wasn’t what they wanted. No one wants to lose by the margin that we lost by. I don’t think that’s the reflection of the season,” Delaney said, “I think that’s just the culmination of going up against a really good team and not really being experienced in this environment. NCAA is a whole new beast, whole [a]nother level of performance. We’ll be ready next time because of what they did this time.”
The curtains close on season to remember. Single-game and single-season goal records broken, the fastest start to a season with eight consecutive wins, and a program best 16-4 record. Only one team gets to raise the trophy each season and it will not be the Rowan. But, the Profs will be able to raise their heads up high following the best season in school history.
