The Campus Recreation provides a wide range of fitness programs, services, and facilities for all students. The services provided by The Campus Recreation include Sport Clubs, Aquatics, Intramural Sports, and Group Fitness.
One prominent aspect of Rowan’s offerings is its variety of sports clubs. In total, there are currently about 50 sports clubs at the university that students can join. The official Rowan Sports Clubs website lists all the clubs and their presidents’ contacts, allowing students to not only see the full list of opportunities but also contact the club leaders directly for more information.
In addition to sports clubs, the university also offers intramural sports, which are primarily held at the Rec Center. According to Sid Chettri, intramural sports official and program coordinator, intramural sports are extremely popular among students and often have high attendance compared to other services in Campus Recreation.
“I would say intramural sports usually tend to have higher attendance because they’re held every single day throughout the week, starting from Sunday to Thursday, so there are a lot of people coming to play the game and have fun,” Chettri said.
Campus Rec also provides a variety of different classes, such as cycling, Pilates, Zumba, yoga, etc. They offer a variety of times to make class schedules more convenient and effective for students, ensuring each student has a chance to attend those classes without them conflicting with their schedules.
Talia Hanson, a senior marketing major, is the program monitor at Campus Recreation. Hanson shared her personal favorite class and why she enjoys coming back to the class.
“For my personal preference, I would say cycling. I feel like whenever I go in, it’s like a great 45-minute workout. I have a hard time doing cardio on my own time, you know, it’s sometimes not as enjoyable. So, this is a really fun way to work out as a group and get a really good workout in,” Hanson said.
Hanson also talked about the new program “Women + Weights,” which is anticipated to start in October.
“Sometimes you may feel awkward going to the gym, and you might feel a little bit uncomfortable doing a certain workout. So this space kind of gives you that nice, very comforting environment, and we really want more women-identifying individuals to partake in this program. Because there’s a lot of potential with this program and I feel like a lot of people still don’t know about it,” Hanson said.
Current Rowan student Riya Das shared her experience with classes at Campus Recreation.
“I’ve been to Candlelight Yoga and Yoga Flow classes and definitely enjoyed them. It was very relaxing and helps you to recover after a stressful week of studying and having a lot on your plate,” Das said.
Overall, Campus Recreation has numerous services and resources for Rowan students. There are opportunities for everyone to get involved. By providing plenty of options, Campus Rec makes it easy for students to find something that fits their interests, personal goals, and schedule.
