Students lined up near the outdoor basketball courts on Oct. 1 for a chance to grab some decently priced clothing from the Depop-affiliated vendors that had converted the courts into a marketplace. Students were presented with the Rowan Skateboarding Club’s six vendors with wide assortments of clothing, ranging from formal wear to football jerseys. There were also two bands performing throughout the day.
Hunter Finer, a senior psychology major, organized the event. He was inspired to host the event after seeing the prevalence of people buying fast fashion.
“One of the reasons I decided to start throwing these events is because we see a bunch of college students buying stuff on Shein, and other fast fashion places,” Finer said. “When you get a six-dollar top, what is the cost of that six-dollar material?”
The event allowed for clothing sellers to expand their reach and tap into new clientele via the students of Rowan.
“I look forward to making people’s day and hooking them up with good prices. I live for it,” said Dave Klinger, the Philadelphia-based owner of Closet Of Suck, one of the vendors present.
There was also a drawing for a fifty-dollar credit towards any of the clothing vendors, as well as other prizes, including mushroom coffee boxes, drawn at the end of the day.
With the event lasting three hours, many students showed up in between classes to quickly buy what they could before time ran out.
“So fair,” said Sanai Jackson, a freshman in mechanical engineering, “I love this event, I love the diversity of different clothing brands. All of the pricing here is very manageable.”
