Entered in the 4×200 and 4×400 meter relays at the McElligot Invitational on Saturday, Jan. 30, freshman Aspen McMillan was in both a familiar and uncertain situation.
McMillan had a level of comfortability with the two events from competing in high school. However, this meet was only one of a handful with her new teammates at Rowan.
Despite limited training with the squads going in, McMillan cashed in on her chances. She took the third leg of the 4×200, which earned an Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships-qualifying time of 1:49.21 for first place, and then followed with a winning team time of 4:04.99 in the 4×400.
“I had a little competition in that first leg of the 4×400, but it was good, it pushed me to do better, to do my best,” the freshman said.
McMillan, who was named both the New Jersey Athletic Conference and ECAC Metro Rookie of the Week, also earned first (9.25) in the 60 meter hurdles.
With a time of 25.90 seconds, senior captain Shailah Williams came in first in the 200 meter. Williams earned NJAC and ECAC Metro Athlete of the Week honors for her performance on Saturday.
