Rowan After Hours at the Oscars had people dressed to impress in beautiful sequin dresses and suits with live jazz music in preparation for the 90th Academy Awards on Sunday March 4.
Rowan students came out to the Chamberlain Student Center Saturday, Feb. 24 to celebrate the Oscars’ style. The student center was decked out with a red carpet, live jazz band and mocktails followed by the showing of last years Oscar’s Best Picture Nominee, La La Land.
Caitlin Maurer, a freshman music education major, was dressed in a beautiful black and gold gown, showing off her spirit for the Oscars.
“I don’t get to dress up enough so every time I get the chance, I’m there, I’m down,” Maurer said. “I already had my dress, I had it for another event but I didn’t get to perform at that event so I didn’t get to show it off enough, I was really proud of it, I had to resew it to fit me.”
Students had the chance to get their pictures taken on the red carpet, made a Hollywood star, and enjoyed popcorn all while listening to the live jazz band.
Kevin Gehringer, a junior music education major, came out to support his fellow jazz players.
“I love the live jazz, I’m a saxophone player as well so I love watching, I know all the people on stage too so watching them come out and do things outside of the music department is also really cool to see” Gehringer said.
Amanda Cahall, a junior English education major, came out to support RAH’s events.
“My roommate is actually the person that coordinated and made this event, so I wanted to come out tonight and support her and its like a really fun night, its a lot of fancy stuff which is exciting” Cahall said.
Following the live music and red carpet runway, RAH had a showing of La La Land, a beautiful love story combining different decades, the battles of stardom and musical performances.
“I love La La Land, so I’m excited to watch that,” Gehringer said.
Get all glammed up and ready for the 2018 90th Academy Awards honoring many wonderful actors and actresses for their amazing roles in some of the greatest big picture films of 2017.
