Rowan women's soccer team beats Rutgers-Newark 4-1, in an important NJAC matchup on Saturday, Oct. 13, 2018 -Multimedia Editor/Jaryd Leady

The Rowan women’s soccer left a lasting impression on the home crowd as they beat Arcadia university 1-0 on Tuesday. They move to 11-1-2 overall.

The match was built up to be a tough match between the two powerhouses.

“Arcadia is a very, very good team,” head coach Scott Leacott said. “They are having a lot of success this year, had a lot of success over the last couple of years. So this game is huge for us.”

Forward Daria Jones scored in the 85th minute to secure the game-winning goal and record her 13th goal of the season. Rowan were faced to play more defensively compared to Arcadia, as Rowan was limited to just 11 shots to Arcadia’ 16. Rowan goalkeeper Shelby Money had seven saves while opposing goalie Brianna Williams only made four stops this game.

This win meant a lot more than just adding to Rowan’s win record, as it was possibly the  the last time the seniors could be playing for the Rowan home crowd.

“After this, you can be on the road for the rest of the season,” Money said. “And you’ll never have that same feeling of playing on your field, having your fans and having people that are supporting you. [I’m going to miss] the atmosphere at home, your fans coming out and supporting you. It’s always more fun to play here then on the road.

With this being one of the final games for some of the players, Leacott also noted an interesting fact about the team’s seniors.

“This is probably one of the only years where we’ve had every single girl here for 4 years,” Leacott said. “We usually get some transfers mixed in there or some other things, but this is one, probably out of the 20 years probably the second or the third time we’ve had all graduating 4 year players.”

The win affects Rowan’s status in the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) standings, bringing them one point behind leading-TCNJ. They could be a number one seed for the first time since 2015 and secure yet another set of home field advantage in the playoffs.

“With the home field advantage we would love to have our field and our fans, that’s a huge advantage,” Money said. “Everyone’s rooting for you guys to do well and as an away team, that hits you a little bit.”
