The Rowan football Profs are coming off of a much needed bye week after starting the season off 0-3. It’s not the end of the world as they are entering the “second half of the season,” as the team likes to call it.
This coming weekend they will play their first New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) game of the year against Wesley College on the road. Can they keep up with the Wesley Wolverines who are also coming off their bye?
“We have a lot of talent on our team,” said senior wide receiver, Nick Grosso. “If we just execute our plays, nobody makes mistakes and we do all the little things right we have the talent to beat them.”
Rowan has the talent, but the question is … can they stay away from the penalties (averaging about five per game) and turnovers late in games? It seems the Brown and Gold have trouble finishing games.
Last week, they were up 17-3 late in the game but Hobart came back to beat them late 20-17. When Linfield came to Glassboro, the defense fell apart in the second half. If the Profs put a full game together, they would have a win or two on the season.
What can the Profs do to fix this problem?
“This past week, we focused on everybody being together,” Grosso said. “Every time someone gets the ball you have to be there; you have to be ready to be by their side when they’re in the end zone. It’s just all about being together as a whole.”
Nick Grosso has 211 receiving yards on the season and two touchdowns. He has been a huge part of this Profs offense.
The Rowan defense has been good, but they haven’t been great. They are giving up 31 points per game, which is not great when your offense averages 19. They have four sacks and caused six turnovers in three games.
We can talk stats all day but the main topic of both sides of the ball is finishing football games. If the Profs continue to not finish games, their championship dreams won’t be realistic anymore.
The Profs will try again at Wesley on Saturday.
