The first annual Career Fair and Expo for the College of Communications and Creative Arts was held on Tuesday, Mar. 12.
The event took place in the Chamberlain Student Center Ballroom and featured over 15 employers, as well as CCCA student showcases. Clubs within the college also had the opportunity to sit at a table to display their work and recruit potential members.
Employers ranged from the Philadelphia Eagles to Stay Focused Magazine, making it easy for CCCA students to explore a range of potential career opportunities.
Rowan has hosted many career fairs in the past, but this is the first event specific to the students on campus that are within the CCCA college.
Senior writing arts majors Laura Kincaid and Morgan Douglas initiated the idea of hosting a career fair specific to this student population.
“Career fairs are such a big ocean, and they attract a certain kind of company,” Kincaid said. “It’s easy for a creative person to get lost in that. We wanted to add to the already great professional development Rowan provides.”
They had been working on this event since last summer and served as the main planners of the expo, putting in many hours to make their idea a reality.
“This was that example of ‘our days are very stressful and we’re very busy,’ but at the end of the day, we still couldn’t wait to get back up and do it again,” Douglas said. “We really have our writing arts department and community to thank, as well as the Office of Career Advancement. They were basically like our fundamental backbone in planning this event.”
Gina DiBartolo, coordinator of communication and outreach for the College of Communications and Creative Arts, helped Douglas and Kincaid plan the event.
“This is an awesome opportunity and I’m so proud of the students that put this together,” DiBartolo said. “Next year, we are going to try to combine with other colleges, such as the College of Humanities and Social Sciences. I’m excited to see it grow and see what it’ll turn into in the next few years.”
The College of Communications and Creative Arts had their own table set up in hopes to find new interns in the areas of graphic design, social media and event planning.
Senior public relations and advertising major Anne Busarello currently interns in the CCCA office and helped plan the event for students.
“Our college is centralized around the arts and we want all of our students to be able to express themselves creatively and have outlets that want to hear from them,” Busarello said. “It’s one of the most important things you can do in college. When you hand in a resume, you can’t just have your major and GPA. Involvement is key.”
