The softball team kept thier momentum going this week, stretching their win streak to nine games to close out the regular season.
They went 5-0 this week, including a win in round one of the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Tournament against Montclair state.
The Red Hawks were sent home with a 6-1 loss. The Profs took the lead in the bottom of the first inning and didn’t look back.
Seniors Carly Anderson and Cassandra Gerard have played incredibly over the last five games with a combined 12 runs scored, 19 hits, and 10 RBI’s.
Junior pitchers Lauren Shannon and Jesse DeDomenico, alongside freshman Alexa Saccomanno, have continued to command the mound with two shutouts between them and only a total of 10 runs allowed over the same stretch.
“I think our team feels accomplished,” Anderson said. “We got our jobs done and usually when we do our jobs, it falls for us.”
Even with two shut out wins and a +29 run differential during the five game stretch, there is always room for improvement.
“I think we can trust each other more,” Anderson said. “Things are going to happen, physical mistakes are going to occur during a game. The best way to recover from that is to pick each other up and know that we have each other’s backs.”
With the continuation of tournament play, their backs will be against the wall each time they are on the field. If Anderson’s philosophy is the case, this team could be on their way to another New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) title.
The tournament continues for the Profs this Friday as they go on the road to face Kean University. The Profs are undefeated against Kean this year, sweeping a double header against them earlier this season.
