Throughout the years, Neil Hartman has taken on many positions. You may know him as the prime-time anchor for Comcast SportsNet, now NBC Sports Philadelphia, from 1997-2016.

Hartman has four Mid-Atlantic Emmy awards and was named Pennsylvania’s Sportscaster of the year in 2000. He is also the CEO of the Talow Media Group, a full-service production company specializing in unscripted sports programming for all platforms.

With 35 years of on-air experience, Hartman is ready to take on his passion for mentoring students. 

This year he takes on a new role as Rowan’s director for the Center for Sports Communication and Social Impact.

Hartman appears to be the perfect fit for this position. His passion for Sports Communication along with his passion for mentoring and teaching youth is sure to put Rowan students in the right direction.

“My whole life I have been mentoring students,” Hartman said. “I feel it is my obligation as a broadcaster to help students and future broadcasters.” 

The Sports Communication and Media (CAM) major, along with the Center for Sports Communication and Social Impact, are two of Rowan’s newest additions. The latter was established by Hartman’s predecessor Dr. John Giannini, who was promoted to Rowan’s athletic director over the summer.

Hartman has high expectations for this field.

“I think what Rowan is building here is unbelievable,” Hartman said. “We are growing everyday and continuing to get our message around out there. We want to offer a widely diversified program for students to be able to pursue a job that they are going to enjoy for their entire career.” 

Hartman has his connections and he wants to bring them to Rowan. He expressed that one of his main goals is to bring opportunities to Rowan students.

“Fortunately, I know a lot of people within these fields, and I want to let them know that we have some pretty great students over here,” Hartman said. 

It is certainly an exciting time to be at Rowan and to be a Sports CAM major. The program is growing rapidly, and has exploded from less than 30 students at its inception a little over a year ago to over 160 today.

Hartman only adds to those opportunities both within and outside of Rowan. He is an outstanding resource for Rowan students, and someone who will do anything in his power to help students take their education and future career to the next level.
