Turnovers, turnovers and more turnovers.

That was the deciding factor in Rowan’s gut wrenching 35-14 loss against nationally 12^th ranked Linfield College Saturday night at Wackar Stadium. 

Fresh off last week’s 38-28 loss against Widener University, the Profs once again got off to a very slow start. 

Their first points didn’t come until right before the first half expired with a two yard touchdown pass from quarterback Mike Hunsi to the senior wide receiver Elijah Rehm to make the score 14-7.

They later added to that with a 30 yard touchdown run by junior running back Messiah Divine to tie the game with 6:34 left in the third quarter.

It went completely downhill from there though.

On the very next drive, Linfield College snatched the momentum back with a three play 47 yard drive which ended in a 12 yard touchdown pass by quarterback Wyatt Smith with 5:42 left in the third quarter. 

That sequence changed the game with Linfield scoring two more touchdowns and holding The Profs scoreless for the rest of the contest.

Even with Rowan winning the time of possession by over 10 minutes, they couldn’t execute, going 1-3 in red zone conversion and leaving many points on the board.

This is a completely different start compared to last season when they started off 3-0. Also, with senior tight end Corey Madden going down with an injury, The Profs are searching for answers.

​Quarterback Mike Hunsi had his struggles as he completed 17 of his 30 passes for 151 and 3 interceptions, all of which inside of the red zone.

​“I’m going to be tough on myself. I know I’m better than that,” Husni said. “I was just trying to do a little too much…I just got to perform better.”

With Hunsi being a transfer from Marist College, he is still in the process of learning the system.

​“It’s only his second game with us,” said head Coach Jay Accorsi. “He fights to the end and scrapes for every play, but that can hurt you when you force something. You don’t want to take the fire out of somebody but you got to guide that fire in the right direction.”

Even with the shaky 0-2 start, the team still feels like they can turn things around going into next week’s road game against Hobart College.

​“Everybody just has to get on that same page on where we want to go and execute,” said running back Messiah Divine.

Rowan will continue to soul search as they try to get their first win of the season against the 2-0 Hobart College at David J Urick Stadium next Saturday at noon.
