For the Rowan women’s soccer team, there is only one more opponent they have to face before they can reach the NJAC tournament and start their postseason push to try to achieve their goal of being conference champions.
This opponent is not an easy team to beat though.
On Wednesday Oct. 30, the Profs go to Ewing, New Jersey to face The College of New Jersey (TCNJ) in their final regular season game.
TCNJ currently sits atop of the NJAC ranking with an impressive record of 13-1-1 with their only loss being from a non-conference game.
Rowan looks to change that and if they are able to play like they have the past two weeks, they could have a good chance of doing that.
The last game the team played was Saturday Oct. 26, here in Glassboro against another conference opponent, Ramapo College. The Profs were able to pick up a very dominant 7-0 win that improved their record to 9-6-1 and put them fourth in the conference.
This win didn’t change much though as the Profs are going in as underdogs but, according to senior Captain Casey Lubonski, the team isn’t letting this keep them from going in strong and ready to put up a good fight.
“I think even for the freshman who has never played against them know it’s such a hype game,” Lubonski said. “It’s a game we have to come out motivated if we want to stay in it and I think we are really motivated and I think that’s what is going to help us when trying to beat them.”
Coach Scott Leacott agrees with this and knows that this being a conference opponent that they have a little rivalry which only adds to the intensity of the game.
“Everything is contested a little tighter, everything is a little more emotional when your playing a conference opponent that your very familiar with,” Leacott said. “And that’s what we are against TCNJ. So we’re just expecting to play extremely hard and do the things we’re capable of doing and we’ll see what happens.”
When asked about how the team prepared for this tough mashup, Leacott explained why they didn’t change up too much in the days leading up to the game.
“It is very similar to every other game. We’re not going to change a ton, it’s the end of the year, you start changing things up, it starts to get a little tentative,” Leacott said. “We’re just going to stick with what we have been doing and go out and play our hardest. That’s all we can ask for.”
This game is shaping up to be one of the most important ones of the year for the Profs because not only will a win against TCNJ help their record and ranking go up, but it will be a huge confidence and momentum boost for the whole team, especially going into tournament play next week.
The game against TCNJ starts at 6:30 p.m. in Ewing, on Oct. 30.
