The Rowan soccer team hung on and pulled off a gritty 2-1 win against The College of New Jersey (TCNJ) at Wackar Stadium to end the regular season with a 9-4-3 record.
As Captain Ryan Logar sat out again due to a hamstring injury, this team still came out and ready to end the season on a high note.
The fact that it was senior night seemed to bring some extra fire out of the Profs.
“It was awesome,” said senior Modou Sowe. “A win like this is always good for the team. We got the win, job done, on to the next one.”
The game got physical with a total of 30 fouls between both teams, but the profs managed to keep their composure long enough to get the win.
The first score of the game didn’t come until 20:17 left in the first half as Sowe scored off an assist by freshman Michael Ferrara.
This was followed up by a block and score by junior Matt Hendrickson with 2:29 left to play in the first half.
The Profs didn’t score the rest of the contest but played some stout defense especially with some clutch saves by goalie James Weinberg.
They stayed aggressive on the offensive end with 19 shots on goal which was key in controlling the tempo and sealing the win.
“We battled to the end,” Ferrara stated. “At the end of the day, we have to keep pushing and we’ll find goals when we need them.”
With the start of the New Jersey Athletic Conference Tournament this Saturday, this team seems to have their identity and are poised to make a run at the championship.
“The main thing is to keep our focus,” Coach Baker explained. “We talk to the team about trying to be our best at this point of the year so, there’s nothing new. Just need to put it at a higher level.”
This Saturday, the real season starts and this team looks ready and highly motivated to leave it all on the field.
