With COVID-19 still omnipresent and Halloween almost two weeks away, celebrating this year will look and feel different for Rowan students. All events on campus are still virtual, which can make it difficult to enjoy this time of year. However, despite the uncertainty, many towns like Glassboro still have fall events going on that are worth looking into.
If it’s not too late already, why not go and pick some pumpkins? Located in Sewell, Duffield’s Farm & Market is a six-minute drive from Rowan and features pumpkin-picking and a nice hayride. What better way to enjoy the month of October than to take a nice walk or ride with friends and family in the chilly fall weather?
Dates are open until Halloween with social distancing guidelines in place. At just $12 for the pumpkin and hayride package, you can celebrate the holiday as normal as expected during the pandemic.
For those who are looking for a real thrill, Creamy Acres Farms in Mullica Hill will offer six haunted attractions such as the “Ride of Terror” haunted hayride, a haunted corn maze and two haunted houses. Every weekend leading up to Halloween, you and your friends can check out spooky attractions like the Harvest.
With surprises at every turn, take a chance and explore the mysteries that lie waiting in the dark. If this sounds like something you are up for, make sure to call ahead and confirm that all events are happening at scheduled times.
Haddonfield, a town that is just a 25-minute drive from Rowan, is filled with years of history. Downtown, you will find streets lined with shops and restaurants, perfect for a crisp, fall evening. And, running from Oct. 16 until Halloween night, local Bill Meehan will be leading Haunted Haddonfield Walking Tours.
At just $15 a ticket, guests can expect a 45-minute tour that includes stopping through a cemetery. Social distancing measures have been put into place, with just 25 participants allowed per tour. Face masks are mandatory and tickets must be bought online in advance.
If you are willing to take the drive, Brighton Asylum, located in Passaic, New Jersey, will also still be open to the public. You and your friends can check out escape rooms or their new attractions. Try to take a ghost tour of the asylum and see just how much you can handle at this haunted location.
These are just a few simple suggestions for how you can celebrate Halloween this year. No matter what you do, it will be different from years past; however, if you keep your safety and the safety of others in mind, that’s all that matters.
