Last Friday, Oct. 29, the Rowan Women’s Swimming team traveled to Union to face Kean University in their first New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) meet of the season. The Profs continued their winning streak by beating the Cougars 184-69, winning 11 of the 14 events during the meet.
This meet had many star performances from the Profs, one in particular coming from freshman Emma Padros. Padros and junior Captain Jordan McChesney were the only multi-race winners of the day. Padros won the 1000 yard freestyle with a time of 11:13.94 and the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:16.12.
Beyond this performance though, Padros has even bigger goals for her freshman year in mind.
“I want to try to win some races in the next couple meets, try to beat some of my times from high school swim, and I’m just trying to have fun,” Padros said. “Honestly, I really want to enjoy my freshman year.”
The goals of Padros and the Profs will be challenged this weekend starting on Friday, Nov. 5, when both swimming & diving will face William Paterson University at home. Then on Saturday, Nov. 6, the Profs will travel to Montclair State University for their second meet of the weekend.
Historically the Profs have dominated both teams, having a 14-0 record against William Paterson and 13-1 record against Montclair State. However, both of the teams are a part of the NJAC and will challenge Rowan to keep up their momentum and winning streak.
“Yes, so there’s a challenge associated with the two meet weekend but what it does is really prepare us for our midseason meets,” Head Coach Elise Blaschke said. “So right now it’s just a matter of continuing to maintain and be consistent in our coaching philosophies and our styles and making sure that we’re prepping them to swim well while still fatigued.”
Friday also marks the season-opener for the diving team. It will be the first time in two years that the divers will be in a competition. Freshman Megan Anderson, who dives in the one and three-meter competitions, expressed her excitement and thoughts of this being her first college meet.
“I came to practice every day,” Anderson said. “And I’m nervous, but it’s new. It’s exciting. And I think it’ll be a fun experience for me because it’s new.”
Diving Head Coach John Morris is excited to see what his team will bring against William Paterson University. Like any coach, he also has his expectations for the divers.
“My expectations are just for fun and to get back into the swing of competing,” Morris said. “It’s been a while since they’ve competed, and I’m really just looking for them to get, like, a love for diving back a little spark.”
