As students enjoyed pizza, music, and Kahoot, the NAACP met for the first time during the spring semester to discuss their agenda for the rest of the academic year.
Following an eventful fall semester, Tuesday, Jan. 24, served as a welcome back for the Rowan chapter of the NAACP. President Gabrielle Langevine led a general body meeting that set the stage for what is to come in the spring. The club outlined its three primary initiatives for the semester, explained by Director of Public Relations Sidney Toussaint.
The first initiative discussed was the Police Conversation Initiative, which will be programs at Rowan focused on engaging police in conversation with student body leaders to create change on and off campus.
Another initiative discussed was the Sexual Health Initiative. The club will run programs centered around preventing sexual assault of women and men on campus as well as immersed lessons on sexual health, awareness and reproductive lessons.
The last of the three initiatives was the Post-Graduation Professionalism Initiative, which will consist of resume-building programs, information about career fairs, and scholarship opportunities for students pursuing higher education.
The meeting also informed members about upcoming events which include: the SJICR Cultural Organization Fair and the club’s plans for Black History Month week (Feb. 6-9). During Black History Month, the NAACP will be hosting Sex Education Trivia (Feb. 6), The Cookout Cook-Off (Feb 7), Black Family Feud (Feb 8), and RAH Rap/R&B Karaoke night (Feb 9).
The meeting closed with a trivia Kahoot game on the history of the club with pizza and refreshments being served for attendees.
