After watching a handful of upsets in Week 6, “Shop or Drop” is back, giving you advice on who to pick up and drop every week in your fantasy football league.
Waiver Wire additions
Jordan Mason – RB – San Francisco 49ers – 7% rostered via Yahoo! Sports
With Christian McCaffrey’s injury status up in the air, halfback Jordan Mason is bound to have a role in the 49ers high powered offense. While CMC was sidelined, the second-year man out of Georgia Tech rushed for 27 yards on five attempts. He also found the end zone in the low-scoring affair against the Browns. Additionally, receiver/running back hybrid Deebo Samuel is day-to-day with a shoulder injury. With two of the 49ers’ star offensive weapons possibly sidelined, expect Mason to get a nice workload next Sunday.
Rashee Rice – WR – Kansas City Chiefs – 45% rostered via Yahoo! Sports
Aside from Travis Kelce, Rashee Rice is slowly becoming Patrick Mahomes favorite receiving target. In his past two games, Rice has caught eight passes on nine targets for a combined 105 yards and a score. The rookie out of SMU leads all Chiefs wideouts in targets so far this season. As long as Mahomes keeps playing like the superstar he is, Rice is primed for success moving forward.
Kareem Hunt – RB – Cleveland Browns – 36% rostered via Yahoo! Sports
Although Jerome Ford is listed as RB1 on the depth chart, Kareem Hunt is making some noise in the Browns backfield. Hunt, who is on his second stint with the team, just rushed for 47 yards on 12 attempts while finding the endzone. The veteran also caught three balls for 24 receiving yards. Similar to previous years, the Browns will look to bring back their 1-2 punch in the running game.
Michael Mayer – TE – Las Vegas Raiders – 5% rostered via Yahoo! Sports
It seems to be the year of the rookie tight ends, as Michael Mayer has finally come alive in week six. The Notre Dame product caught five of six passes for 75 yards. Mayer also played a season-high 57 snaps, meaning he is certain to gain more opportunities in the weeks to come.
Kendrick Bourne – WR – New England Patriots – 17% rostered via Yahoo! Sports
The Patriots’ offense has been a disaster, but someone has to be out their catching Mac Jones’ passes. That guy is Kendrick Bourne, who has slowly slid into New England’s WR1 slot. Despite not finding the end zone, Bourne hauled in 10 balls for 89 yards in Sunday’s loss to Las Vegas. You never know what you are going to get out of the Patriots, but nevertheless, Bourne is a solid addition for your bench.
Craig Reynolds – RB – Detroit Lions – 2% rostered via Yahoo! Sports
David Montgomery, who is Detroit’s RB1, went down against Tampa Bay on Sunday with a rib cartilage injury. Jahmyr Gibbs, Detroit’s RB2, has been sidelined for the past two weeks while nursing a hamstring injury. That leaves Craig Reynolds as the last man standing. While Montgomery will be out for a few weeks, Gibbs is trending towards playing next Sunday. With hamstring injuries tending to linger, Reynolds would be a nice handcuff to Gibbs if he is unable to give it a go against Baltimore.
Players to Drop
Jahan Dotson – WR – Washington Commanders
Jahan Dotson seems to be the odd man out in Washington’s receiving core, which consists of Terry McLaurin, Curtis Samuel, and Logan Thomas as Sam Howell only looked his way once this past Sunday. The Commanders’ offense has been extremely unpredictable this year, and Dotson is simply not getting enough targets.
Hunter Henry – TE – New England Patriots
As I said earlier in the article, the Patriots’ offense has been abysmal this season, as they have yet to put up more than 20 points in a single game. In his last four games, Henry has only caught seven passes for 75 yards. Additionally, the veteran is also competing with Mike Gesicki for tight end targets.
Tutu Atwell – WR – Los Angeles Rams
Tutu Atwell started off the season on fire, but has since cooled off with the return of Cooper Kupp. Kupp and Nacua have been dominating the target share, as Atwell has only been targeted six times between the past two games. That is a significant drop off from the 8.8 targets per game he was averaging weeks one through four.
If you see some of these guys on your waiver wire, try and scoop them up. Although some players may not have a spot on your starting roster at the moment, injuries are bound to happen. When everyone else in your league is scrambling around looking for replacements, you will remember that you read “Shop and Drop”, and reinforcements are already sitting on your bench.
