The Rowan women’s cross country team is working hard in preparation for the upcoming New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Championships.
Team captain Cammy Wright is feeling very confident in the team and believes this could be the season that they come out on top at the most important meet of the season.
“My expectation is that we should come out on top and win,” Wright said. “The last time we won was pre-COVID, and we have gotten a lot better each season since the pandemic.”
Wright’s Co-Captain Amanda McNally is also very optimistic and stated that former Head Coach Derek “Ringo” Adamson is a main factor behind the team’s motivation heading into the meet.
“This year is especially special because we are Ringo’s last team,” McNally said. “That definitely gives us more drive to win.”
Both captains also notice a difference in this specific team compared to previous seasons.
“I think what makes this team special is the drive we have,” Wright said. “The girls are super passionate and they just have the spark in their eye.”
“This team is extremely motivated,” McNally said. “We have all of our old members and we doubled the size of our team with this year’s freshman class. They’re energized, they’re ready to go, and they love running. Everyone here loves the sport and each other which will be one of the reasons why we win.”
Newly-appointed Head Coach Eric DuBois is extremely calm and enjoying every moment with his team as the season approaches the finish line.
“I think we’re having fun with everything,” DuBois said. “It’s been a transition process, but the women have taken everything in stride and are moving with purpose.”
DuBois senses his team is more than ready for the NJAC Championships, and likes how the race is more straightforward than previous meets.
“The NJAC is an extremely competitive race, but it’s a lot more straightforward than some of the other races we ran,” DuBois said. “In this race, we know all the competition. There’s even going to be people that the team has ran against in high school.”
The women’s cross country team has been on a roll all season long and has very high expectations for themselves as we enter the home stretch of the season.
