The Rowan field hockey team has an unusual schedule this week, playing three games instead of their regular two. If the week’s results are anything like Tuesday night’s, though, then there shouldn’t be much reason for concern.
In the first game of the stretch in Glassboro, the Profs grabbed a 3-0 win against Cabrini University.
It’s the team’s third straight win since starting 0-2 and the second shutout during the streak.
“It was obviously a great outcome,” said freshman forward Bridget Boyle. “A 3-0 win on home turf is something that we always hope for. A shutout on home field even. Everyone on the team was playing together and it was just a great experience tonight.”
Boyle was the one that got things started for Rowan (3-2), finding the back of the goal off a deflection nine and a half minutes into the contest.
Play was in the Profs’ favor for the rest of the first half, with the team managing seven shots to the Cavaliers’ five. Rowan also received more penalty corners than Cabrini did.
However, it was not until the second half that Rowan started showing their dominance.
Sophomore midfielders Jacqui Rosati and Rachel Galante added to the scoring in the frame, each earning their second goals of the year.
“I thought we made some really good adjustments in the second half,” head coach Michelle Andre said. “I was happy with the way we stopped the big ball and we actually went on transition really quickly.”
The brown and gold defense held strong in the second half, only allowing one shot to Cabrini.
“I honestly wasn’t nervous at all this game,” junior goalkeeper Carly DeMarco said. “I felt like the defense was really stepping up. I was kind of just chilling in the back. They were doing good.”
The Profs look to extend their win streak to four games as they take on Fairleigh Dickinson University-Florham on Thursday, a team that is 1-15 all time against Rowan.
