After another wild week in the National Football League, “Shop or Drop” is back, giving you advice on who to pick up and drop every week in your fantasy football league.
Waiver Wire additions:
Sam Darnold –QB – Minnesota Vikings – 30% rostered via Yahoo! Sports
Sam Darnold and the Vikings have been on a tear through the first three weeks of the season. The former Jet, Panther, and 49er just tossed four touchdowns like it was nothing against a stout Texans defense. Darnold is making all of this magic happen without his WR2 in Jordan Addison and TE1 in T.J. Hockenson. Once those two return, it seems as if this offense will remain hard to contain.
Bucky Irving – RB – Tampa Bay Buccaneers – 36% rostered via Yahoo! Sports
Bucky Irving is slowly establishing himself as the lead back in Tampa Bay’s backfield. The rookie out of Oregon rushed for 70 yards on only nine carries this past Sunday. Irving also caught all three of his targets out of the backfield. Meanwhile, RB1 Rachaad White only rushed for 17 yards on six attempts. Look for Irving’s production to only increase in the coming weeks.
Cam Akers – RB – Houston Texans – 43% rostered via Yahoo! Sports
Although Joe Mixon and Dameon Pierce were sidelined with injuries, Cam Akers showed little production in the blowout loss versus the Vikings. Fear not, as the Texans have a favorable matchup at home against the Jaguars this week. If Mixon and Pierce don’t suit up, Akers would be a favorable stream if needed for your fantasy lineup.
Jauan Jennings – WR – San Francisco 49ers – 33% rostered via Yahoo! Sports
Jauan Jennings exploded for 175 receiving yards, catching 11 of 12 targets. The unsung hero for the 49ers also found the end zone not one, not two, but three times. With San Francisco’s star offensive players battling the injury bug (Samuel, Kittle, McCaffrey), Jennings will have extreme value moving forward.
Darnell Mooney – WR – Atlanta Falcons – 26% rostered via Yahoo! Sports
Darnell Mooney has been a surprisingly reliable target for Kirk Cousins over the past two weeks. After hauling in three receptions for 88 yards and a touchdown in Week 2, Mooney returned in Week 3 catching all eight targets for 66 yards. With the Falcons offense beginning to find their stride, Mooney seems to be solidifying himself as the WR2 in Atlanta.
Cole Kmet – TE – Chicago Bears – 42% rostered via Yahoo! Sports
It doesn’t happen often, but I made a mistake. Last week, Cole Kmet was on my drop list. He must have read my take on him and felt motivated because the young tight end caught 10 of 11 targets for 97 yards and a touchdown. Granted, Kennan Allen was sidelined for this contest. However, there is no denying that Kmet will play a large role in Caleb Williams’ offense.
Players to Drop
Taysom Hill – TE – New Orleans Saints
The man who seems to do it all has been fairly quiet to begin the year. After scoring under five fantasy points through the first two weeks of the season, Taysom Hill was sidelined in Week 3 due to a bruised lung. Until he proves us otherwise, the utility piece that Hill is should remain on waivers.
Ezekiel Elliott – RB – Dallas Cowboys
After a Week 1 rushing touchdown, Ezekiel Elliott has been limited in Dallas’ offense. Rico Dowdle seems to be the lead back, with Deuce Vaughn even getting some looks. Additionally, Dalvin Cook is on the practice squad, and his number is looking to be called any day now.
Adonai Mitchell – WR – Indianapolis Colts
Adonai Mitchell only had one target with zero receptions in Sunday’s win over Chicago. Anthony Richardson and this Colts offense have yet to find their rhythm in the passing game. With Josh Downs returning from injury, as well as Michael Pittman and Alec Pierce, Mitchell seems to be the odd man out as of right now.
If you see some of these guys on your waiver wire, try and scoop them up. Although some players may not have a spot on your starting roster at the moment, injuries are bound to happen. When everyone else in your league is scrambling around looking for replacements, you will remember that you read “Shop or Drop”, and reinforcements are already sitting on your bench.
