Week five of the NFC East saw triumph this week, as all three teams that played were victorious. The only exception was the Philadelphia Eagles, who were on bye this week.
Commanders: The Washington Commanders swept past the Cleveland Browns on Sunday with a score of 34-13. It was a defensive masterpiece as the team went for seven sacks. Frankie Luvu and Bobby Wagner led the defense with a combined 13 tackles and four sacks. The Commanders’ offense took a ground approach to the matchup as the team rushed for 215 yards.
Cowboys: After a long weather delay, the Dallas Cowboys squeaked out a last-minute win against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday night. Dak Prescott struggled in the air throwing two interceptions. Luckily for Prescott, running back Rico Dowdle and wide receiver Jalen Tolbert were the main contributors throughout the night. With 20 seconds left in regulation and 4th and goal, Dak Prescott connected with Tolbert to secure the lead and the win.
Giants: The New York Giants were missing their star rookie receiver Malik Nabers Sunday as they took on a 3-1 Seahawks team. However, the team was able to secure the win on the road as the clear underdogs, thanks to the team’s ability to convert well on both the ground and the air. Daniel Jones threw for 257 yards and two touchdowns while running back Tyrone Tracy Jr. ran for 129 yards on 18 carries. The Giants clinched the win on a blocked field goal attempt that was returned for a touchdown with a minute to go in the fourth quarter.
Eagles: The Philadelphia Eagles are looking to recoup after suffering a devastating loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in week four. The offense should get a big boost, as it appears that A.J. Brown, DeVonta Smith, and Lane Johnson will return to the Eagles’ offense as they take on the Cleveland Browns in week six.
Outlook: The Commanders remain atop the division with a record of 4-1, while the Cowboys sit in second at 3-2. The Eagles aren’t far behind in third, with a 2-2 record, while the Giants remain in last with a 2-3 record. Every team is in action next week, as the Commanders play the Ravens, the Cowboys take on the Lions, the Browns come to Philly, and the Giants take on the struggling Bengals. See you next week for another NFC East roundup.
