Shop or Drop: Fantasy Football
Week 5 of the NFL season is in the books, meaning “Shop or Drop with Rob” is back, giving you expert advice on who to pick up and drop every week in your fantasy football league.
Waiver Wire additions
Daniel Jones – QB – New York Giants – 44% rostered via Yahoo! Sports
Don’t look now, but Danny Dimes has been playing some solid ball as of late. Over his last four games, Jones has a 6:1 passing touchdown to interception ratio. Without standout rookie receiver Malik Nabers, Jones passed for 257 yards, tossed two touchdowns, and added 38 rushing yards. The Giants could have a promising offense when Nabers returns, alongside Wan’Dale Robinson and Darius Slayton.
Ty Chandler – RB – Minnesota Vikings – 28% rostered via Yahoo! Sports
With Aaron Jones sidelined due to injury, Ty Chandler stepped into the RB1 role for the Vikings in their matchup against the Jets. Although Chandler only rushed for 30 yards, he did receive 14 carries, even with Jones playing the first quarter of the game. With Jones’ status up in the air, Chandler will be a nice pickup if the former Packer does indeed miss time.
Tank Bigsby – RB – Jacksonville Jaguars – 23% rostered via Yahoo! Sports
There is a new starting running back in Jacksonville, and he goes by the name of Tank Bigsby. The second-year product out of Auburn ran for 101 yards, scored two touchdowns, and hauled in a pass for 28 yards. Furthermore, Bigsby doubled Travis Etienne Jr.’s carries during the win against the Colts. With his standout performance, Bigsby may have solidified his role as the new lead back for the Jaguars.
JuJu Smith-Schuster – WR – Kansas City Chiefs – 6% rostered via Yahoo! Sports
JuJu Smith-Schuster showed us all a glimpse of his old self with a seven-catch, 130-yard Monday night. With Rashee Rice most likely done for the year, the veteran receiver may be the new WR1 in Kansas City. Having won a Super Bowl with the Chiefs in 2022, Smith-Schuster is a comfortable fit in their offensive system.
Jalen Tolbert – WR – Dallas Cowboys – 7% rostered via Yahoo! Sports
Jalen Tolbert made the most of his opportunities on Sunday night against the Steelers. With Brandon Cooks being placed on IR, the third-year man out of Southern Alabama showed out, catching seven of 10 targets for 87 yards and a touchdown. If Dallas can get their offense ramped up, Tolbert will provide great value as a WR2 behind the great CeeDee Lamb.
Tyler Conklin – TE – New York Jets – 30% rostered via Yahoo! Sports
Recommending a reliable fantasy football tight end has become a real challenge these days. Anyways, here is Tyler Conklin. The former Viking caught six of nine targets for 55 yards against his old team in London. With the Jets struggling to run the ball, look for Rodgers to continue to target Conklin moving forward.
Players to Drop
Zamir White – RB – Las Vegas Raiders
Despite high expectations for Zamir White heading into this season, he has significantly underperformed. The halfback out of Georgia has yet to score over 7 fantasy points this year. With a lingering groin injury, as well as the presence of Alexander Mattison, White has no business being on your fantasy roster.
Jerome Ford – RB – Cleveland Browns
Despite Ford delivering three double-digit fantasy performances, his increased workload appears to be nearing its end. In the loss to Washington, he split carries with D’Onta Foreman. With Nick Chubb eligible to return in the coming weeks, his opportunities will further decrease.
Mark Andrews – TE – Baltimore Ravens
Even though Mark Andrews had his best fantasy performance of the season this past Sunday, his role in the Ravens’ offense remains limited. The veteran tight end was outscored not only by Isiah Likely but also by TE3 Charlie Kolar. Andrews is no longer a starting-caliber fantasy football player.
If you see some of these guys on your waiver wire, try and scoop them up. Although some players may not have a spot on your starting roster at the moment, injuries are bound to happen. When everyone else in your league is scrambling around looking for replacements, you will remember that you read “Shop or Drop”, and reinforcements are already sitting on your bench.
