On Sept. 30, news broke out about star receiver Davante Adams’s interest in leaving the Las Vegas Raiders. Despite the 31-year-old only in his third season with the team, he might be hanging up his team’s helmet.
With the relationship between him and Derek Carr being strong, fans thought that was going to be a big-time connection for years to come. Many believed the main reason that Adams expressed interest in the team was because of his bond with Carr, but since he got traded, Adams has shown frustration with the team’s lack of good quarterback play. Since Carr was traded to the Saints, Adams has played with Jimmy Garoppolo, Aidan O’Connell, and Gardner Minshew; three quarterbacks who are not franchise guys and are fringe-level starting quarterbacks.
Since Adams is very likely to be traded before this season’s deadline, here are some teams that could make a move to acquire him.
Ravens:
The Ravens make perfect sense to land Adams. They have not had a solidified number-one wide receiver since Steve Smith retired, and they have been continuously trying to reverse that. Lamar Jackson is as good as you are going to get at the quarterback position, but his best target so far this year has been Zay Flowers. Flowers is an excellent receiver with a ton of upside, but if you are trying to win in the short term, you need players who are bonafide stars at their positions. Adams has teased about wanting to play for Baltimore, and it makes sense for both sides. Adams wants a winning culture with consistent quarterback play, and Baltimore wants a guy who is a proven star at receiver.
Jets:
Davante Adams and Aaron Rodgers. That dynamic duo is all that needs to be said about this possible destination. After torching the league for years together in Green Bay, Rodgers and Adams could potentially be back to playing together after just a few years away from each other. To say the least, the Jets’ offense has been disappointing due to their mostly uncreative weapons. Besides Garrett Wilson, the receivers that Rodgers has at his disposal have been lackluster in 2024. Rodgers has clearly shown frustration with the team’s disappointing start to the season and now would be a better time than ever to make a move for Adams. With the firing of Robert Salah, Jets ownership clearly wants to shake things up and put themselves in a better position to win. The defense has been rock solid this year; couple that with Davante teaming back up with Rodgers, and they can potentially make the playoff push fans have been waiting years for.
Chiefs:
I know trading in-division is a rarity in the NFL, especially to a team that has won back-to-back Super Bowls, but it makes perfect sense for the Chiefs to try and make a move for Adams. They’re already 5-0, but the offense has taken a massive hit with Rashee Rice now sidelined for the entire season. Hollywood Brown is out for a long time as well, meaning the only targets Mahomes can rely on are an aging Travis Kelce and rookie Xavier Worthy. Davante Adams will be a very happy man knowing that his quarterback is the best of this generation. The Chiefs may have to give up a lot more than other teams, but they have the luxury and flexibility to make a move happen. Adams is already 31 years old and will turn 32 before this season is over. He knows that he does not have many years left of being elite, so why wouldn’t he want to be traded to the league’s best team? This will give Adams by far his best chance to win before he retires. Trading a guy like him to the best team, the best coach, and the best quarterback in the league, Adams would have a field day catching passes from Mahomes.
