With Week 6 of the NFL season coming to a close, “Shop or Drop” is back, giving you expert advice on who to pick up and drop every week in your fantasy football league.
Waiver Wire additions
Drake Maye – QB – New England Patriots – 6% rostered via Yahoo! Sports
Although losing in blowout fashion in his NFL debut, Drake Maye had himself a solid day stat-wise against the Houston Texans. The rookie out of North Carolina threw for 243 yards, rushed for 38, and tossed three touchdowns. The Patriots offense isn’t as miserable as many make it out to be. Weapons such as Hunter Henry, DeMario Douglas, and Rhamondre Stevenson will help the rookie next week in a favorable matchup against Jacksonville.
Tyrone Tracy Jr. – RB – New York Giants – 45% rostered via Yahoo! Sports
With Devin Singletary missing Sunday Night Football due to a groin injury, Tyrone Tracy filled his role. The 5th round rookie from Purdue, reached the end zone on 17 carries, accumulating 50 rushing yards. Tracy also contributed in the passing game, catching six passes for 57 yards. If Singletary remains sidelined, Tracy offers RB2 fantasy potential for your lineups.
Ray Davis – RB – Buffalo Bills – 12% rostered via Yahoo! Sports
Ray Davis took the lead role in Buffalo’s backfield after James Cook was scratched right before Monday night’s contest against the New York Jets. Much like Tyrone Tracy, the late-round rookie carried the ball 20 times for 97 rushing yards and added three receptions for 55 receiving yards. Cook is expected to play in Week 7, but Davis remains a valuable stash on your bench in case Cook suffers another injury.
DeMario Douglas – WR – New England Patriots – 8% rostered via Yahoo! Sports
Over the past two seasons, DeMario Douglas has found small ways to shine in New England’s offense. With Drake Maye running the show, Douglas found the end zone for the first time in his NFL career. He was targeted nine times, catching six of those for 92 yards. Douglas has a favorable matchup this Sunday against Jacksonville, as the Jaguars give up the most yards to opposing wide receivers.
Bub Means – WR – New Orleans Saints – 0% rostered via Yahoo! Sports
I had to reach deep into the bag for this one. However, with Chris Olave, Rashid Shaheed, and Cedrick Wilson Jr. all questionable, Bub Means is the next man up in the Saints offense. The fifth-round rookie caught five passes for 45 yards and a touchdown. With New Orleans facing Denver this Thursday night, the short week raises questions about the availability of the Saints’ top receivers. Additionally, the Broncos’ defense will be without All-Pro cornerback Patrick Surtain II, which bodes well for Means.
Cade Otton – TE – Tampa Bay Buccaneers – 36% rostered via Yahoo! Sports
Cade Otton has quietly had himself a nice year thus far. The Bucs tight end has seen six-plus targets in three of the past four games. Although he only caught two of those targets this past week, Otton made up for it by finding the end zone for the first time this year. This week, he has a favorable matchup against a Baltimore Ravens defense that’s allowing the fourth-most fantasy points to tight ends.
Players to Drop
Dontayvion Wicks – WR – Green Bay Packers
Although Dontayvion Wicks had flashes of production, the Packers’ receiver room is simply too crowded with the return of Christian Watson. Additionally, he is now considered week to week with a shoulder injury. If Jayden Reed, Christian Watson, or Romeo Doubs were to miss time, Wicks would be worth considering as an option.
Trey Sermon – RB – Indianapolis Colts
With Jonathan Taylor sidelined for a second consecutive week, Trey Sermon once again got the call to start. However, on 18 carries, Sermon was extremely unproductive, rushing for only 29 yards. Once Taylor returns, Sermon is likely to see his role diminish significantly.
Gus Edwards – RB – Los Angeles Chargers
There were high hopes that Gus Edwards and J.K. Dobbins would form a strong 1-2 punch. However, Dobbins appears to be the only one delivering, as he remains the solidified RB1 in the Chargers’ offense. With Edwards now placed on IR, his absence further cements Dobbins’ role as the lead back.
If you see some of these guys on your waiver wire, try and scoop them up. Although some players may not have a spot on your starting roster at the moment, injuries are bound to happen. When everyone else in your league is scrambling around looking for replacements, you will remember that you read “Shop or Drop”, and reinforcements are already sitting on your bench.
