Rowan field hockey turned in their most dominant performance of the season on Wednesday, Oct. 23, defeating William Paterson by a final score of 9-0 at Coach Richard Wackar Stadium in Glassboro. The win improves Rowan’s record to 9-7 as well as a perfect 4-0 in New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) play. The Profs also extended their season-long win streak to five games.
It didn’t take long for Rowan to grab the lead, as Allie Palumbo corralled a rebound from a shot off William Paterson goaltender Sofia Chebookjian and put a backhanded shot into the cage. Rowan also received goals from Jenna Gray and Sidney Pavlishin to extend the lead to 3-0 at the end of the first quarter. Gray’s performance in particular is the continuation of a sensational freshman campaign, as on Monday Gray was named NJAC Rookie of the Week for the third time this season and is also second on the team in goals scored (9) and tied for first in assists (5).
Palumbo added another goal in the second quarter to raise her team-leading season total to 11 goals. Mia Foti, Paige Gray, and Pavlishin also tallied goals in the second quarter, giving the Profs a 7-0 lead going into the half.
Rowan was able to empty their bench in the second half, and as a result, freshman Victoria Tullio scored her first career collegiate goal. Lily Bataloni also added a goal in the fourth quarter, cementing the 9-0 final score.
Even in a game that wasn’t competitive and oftentimes saw both teams down to ten players on the field as William Paterson dealt with injuries and lack of substitutions, head coach Michelle Andre still believes there are lessons that can be learned.
“We stuck to how we play and I saw a lot of productive things,” Andre said. “We got a chance to look at our future and where we’re developing. Overall, it was a good team effort and we did what we needed to do to get a win.”
Pavlishin recorded her first multi-goal game since 2023 and is pleased with her performance.
“It felt really good tonight, especially coming off games where I haven’t played my best,” Pavlishin said. “It definitely is a good confidence boost and good to put goals on the board for our team.”
Next up for the Profs is a non-conference game against Salisbury on Friday, Oct. 25 in Glassboro. The contest will serve as a barometer for how far Rowan has come since their early season struggles, as Salisbury is the No. 2 ranked team in the country while currently riding a seven-game win streak.
Despite the tough task, Pavlishin believes her team has grown enough to handle the challenge.
“My past couple of years here we haven’t struggled like this year,” Pavlishin said. “I think teams have started looking at us like we aren’t as good as we were in the past, so it feels good to show people who Rowan field hockey is.”
