Fall fashion is in full swing here at Rowan University.
Whether someone’s rocking a flannel or a nicely knitted sweater, there’s a look for every mood, and Rowan’s style profile has been a diverse pool of “slay.”
There have been students pairing chunky scarves and boots with layered looks that balance warmth and style. The weather’s habit of constantly changing from hour to hour calls for cozy layers, and adding bold accessories gives students the chance to embrace the season with creativity and flair.
According to Vogue, the season’s focus this year is “luxurious classics with effortless movement.”
While not many Rowan students are running into Chamberlain Student Center donning Chloé, a high-end luxury brand, they are staying comfy with a sense of style. Freshman Savannah Chadee is no exception to this.
On a fall Monday morning, Chadee was styling a Garage top with Uggs, Evry Jewelry, a pair of vintage jeans, and a Japanese trench coat. Chadee managed to blend luxury with comfort on her way to her history of popular music class.
“I think my biggest style inspiration is Karl Lagerfeld because he said sweatpants are a sign of defeat and I think that is the case for what I relate to,” Chadee said. “Coco Chanel is a huge inspiration as well.”
As previously stated, the weather this fall has been so confusing.
One day, it’s nearly 80 degrees and extremely sunny. The next, it’s a chilly, windy day that makes it feel like winter is just around the corner.
It’s hard to plan outfits when the temperature keeps swinging from summer to fall, and it’s a problem which may not change in years to come.
Freshman Jakob Falkoff strategically plans his outfits for the day when the weather changes on him.
“I would say my wardrobe has a lot of layers,” Falkoff said. “I have all kinds of clothes, including hoodies, jackets, flannels, crewnecks, and long, and short sleeve shirts. I look at the weather to see how much I need today so that by the time I am ready to get out of bed.”
When it comes to fashion, some trends just never fade. They are able to withstand the test of time, remaining staples in any wardrobe.
At Nordstrom, items like a tailored blazer or a trench coat carry a sense of versatility that makes them wardrobe essentials. Some people, such as Falkoff, use apps like Pinterest to figure out how to style those types of pieces.
“I know what I need. I have the basic pieces that I can use with anything that is usually my base layer of clothes if the day is particularly cold,” said Falkoff. “After those basics, I have my statement pieces that will go over the top of my stuff, creating the outfits fitting the weather and it makes me feel confident and ready for the day.”
On Rowan’s campus, some students prefer to dress like Y2K is forever in style.
“I would definitely say Y2K fashion never goes out of style,” Shirley Jenkins, a business management major, said. “I feel like the flare leggings, juicy couture sets, and low-rise jeans will always be timeless clothing items.”
When it comes to fashion, fall, or any other season, it is very subjective to each individual person. So, everyone should wear whatever makes them comfortable and happy.
Like they say in the musical Annie, “You’re never fully dressed without a smile.”
