Black Friday is right around the corner, and while maybe you’re not going to your local mall to get the best deals, everyone loves a deal. Some people line up outside of stores, while others just surf the web to find the best deals.
Back then, people got into full physical fights for a marked-down “Barbie” doll, and while Black Friday may have lost its big cultural phenomenon on Rowan’s campus, students still plan to shop, whether it be at the Cherry Hill Mall, or on their favorite store’s website.
A lot of people tend to wait till the last minute to get their family and friends gifts for the Holidays, Yet that seems to be an exception for Rowan, where multiple students said that they usually get their gifts on their family on Black Friday to get it out of the way early.
“I usually go for Black Friday, just because you get the best deals then, and you can kinda be ahead of it so you’re not scrambling at the last minute,” said freshman chemical engineering major Anthony Scalzo.
Some did admit to waiting until the last minute, due to the timing of Black Friday, mixing with a college student’s financial status.
“I usually wait till the last minute, because When Black Friday comes along I’m usually broke,” said environmental science major Sairis Jimenez.
When it comes to shopping around the holidays, the vibes are immaculate with Christmas Music blasting throughout the store, scents of pine blasted through the vents, and fake and real trees galore. It’s difficult to choose a favorite store, and a lot of students said they love department stores like Kohls and Macy’s.
While other students said that they prefer trendy clothing stores, some are planning to shop at old favorites.
“My favorite stores are probably Aeropostale or American Eagle,” said sophomore and biological science major Himani Kotha.
Freshman public relations major Justin Stram agreed with Kotha.
“Anything clothes-related, I just want to get my drip up,” said Stram.
In the Late 90’s and early 2000’s, People would do some very wild things for a good deal. According to WatchMojo.com in 2011, a hoard of shoppers in Atlanta, Texas fought over marked-down towels, with a person ending up inside a bin. While the times have changed immensely since then, people would still be willing to do some intense things to get 50 percent off on the holiday.
“50 percent off is a lot, If the store owner came up to me and asked me to lick the store floor for 50 percent off, I would,” said Jimenez.
Others chose a less extreme route. Freshman Madyson Abele chose privacy and isolation as their option to get a deal.
“My family loves to party and stay up late, so I would probably kick them all out on Thanksgiving to get 50 percent off,” said Abele.
No matter how you celebrate it, Black Friday remains a day of caffeine-fueled determination to kick off a season for giving.
