The Borough of Glassboro Council held their monthly meeting where they discussed continuing project developments and approved four new street names on Nov. 26.
It was a quick meeting with no questions from the public and a few updates on ongoing business in Glassboro.
Councilman Andrew Halter spoke about the continued work of replacing galvanized pipes in Glassboro, something they are mandated to do through the state.
“Specifically, we did have some residents concerned about some letters they received from the borough of Glassboro, as directed by DEP [Department of Environmental Protection], but again, recognizing that we do not have any lead service pipes in Glassboro, the wording from DEP creates a lot of confusion with residents and concerns,” said Halter.
Councilman Edward Malandro III thanked the Glassboro fire department for their work during the wildfires that burned through town before the rain came.
Malandro updated the council on the status of the paid parking in downtown Glassboro. In October, over 12,000 cars used the service.
“Back in February, we only parked 7,454 cars. That’s a 61% increase. And again, the purpose of putting the paid parking was not a cash grab. It was to turn the cars over to get more people into businesses,” said Malandro.
The council’s next meeting will be on Dec. 10.
