Rowan men’s indoor track and field is primed and ready to showcase its high-level performers to the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) as well as the rest of Division III during the 2024-25 season.
The Profs were able to capture another NJAC title last season, in addition to winning the All-Atlantic Region Track and Field Conference Championship. Head coach Dustin Dimit has high expectations for the team, even though there are many new faces and transfers.
“We know we have a great team,” said Dimit. “A lot of All-Americans back, a great freshman class, and good transfers. We feel we’ll be a top-ten team in the country, and a good chance to be top-four and bring home one of those big NCAA trophies.”
Someone to be on the lookout for this season is Damarion Potts. The sophomore made it to nationals in both the high jump and long jump in his freshman year, and his biggest motivation has been his support staff and wanting to stay injury-free.
“Staying healthy because I got hurt during the indoor season towards the end,” said Potts. “Just improving drastically in, higher heights and my approach. My family has been a big motivation, trying to improve from how it was last year, being one percent better each day, and just getting better overall.”
Dimit expects Potts to have an exceptional year and to once again be one of the team’s top performers.
“We expect the same this year and think he’s going to have a great year, and should be one of our top jumpers,” said Dimit.
The Profs will also be guided by sprinter Kwaku Nkrumah. The junior was the top finisher at the All-Atlantic Region Track and Field Conference Championship (8.01) and was selected to the All-NJAC Second Team in the 400-meter his freshman year. Heading into the season, Nkrumah has his sights set on one thing he wants to improve on.
“Just my times, that’s it,” said Nkrumah. “Just my times.”
Dimit alluded that Nkrumah is going to set an important example for the team and will have great runners surrounding him.
“He’s going to be really important, not just for what he can do for us there, but he’s been a really good leader and worked really hard this year,” said Dimit. “Can tell he’s trying to get a lot stronger and looks like that in the meets.”
The Profs will open the season on Friday, Dec. 6 at the Fasttrack Season Opener in Staten Island, New York at Ocean Breeze Complex. Potts noted that the meet will be a good litmus test to see where the team is at.
“It’s going to be very important, very important to the whole team, the whole program, especially to Coach Dimit,” said Potts. “It’s going to be another win in his book, another win for us, another staple to see where we’re at and to just take the limits.”
