At Rowan University, there are endless clubs and organizations for everyone to join, such as the Public Health Club and Unified Sports Club.
One unique club/team that Rowan University has is the Rowan University Dance Team. The Dance Team is a competitive sports club that performs at all home football and basketball games.
The Rowan Dance Team is a place where people find motivation and have a feeling of enjoyment.
Brittany Sylvester is a graduate student who is a part of the Rowan University Dance Team.
“As a team and as a whole, we take ourselves very seriously and what we do very seriously,” said Sylvester. “We work really hard in practice, but we’re still also trying to have fun.”
Bryce O’Donnell is a junior dance major and is also a part of the Rowan University Dance Team.
Last week, the team made it into the finals at the college nationals for both their routines. They placed seventh in the Open Hip-Hop and 13th in Open Jazz.
“We’re very proud,” said O’Donnell. “It’s a big commitment, and a lot of work goes into it. So everyone gives it their all.”
The Rowan Dance Team displays a sense of belonging for anyone to join and has a lot of people who come from high-level dance backgrounds.
“A lot of the people that are on our team come from a really intense competitive dance background that normally stops after high school,” said Sylvester. “So being able to come here and have the opportunity to continue that and just be around like-minded people.”
Not only are the members of the team striving to be good at the competition, but they want everyone to succeed in the classroom as well.
“With people being able to also make connections,” said Sylvester. If you see somebody that has a similar major, then you’re like, ‘Maybe we can help this class,’ or ‘I’ve taken this class before, here’s this textbook.’”
The Rowan Dance Team has made its member’s experience at Rowan University something they will never forget.
“I feel like my experience at Rowan wouldn’t be the same without this team,” said O’Donnell. “I met so many people, and I feel like it’s brought me out of my comfort zone a lot. I would just say it’s a very eye-opening and dedicated and strong community that we have.”
O’Donnell and Sylvester host open dance classes for anyone who wants to learn how to dance.
“We run open dance classes to all Rowan students or outside students that just want to come to dance with us for an hour,” said Sylvester.
