Editors Note: This article has been updated with the latest information from Andrew Oakley, Assistant Vice President of Capital Facilities Construction.
With the expected January 2025 opening date for the Chamberlain Student Center not coming to fruition, the thrilling opening date saga will be drawn on longer as there has been little communication about what is happening and when the actual opening will be.
Joe Lizza, director of the Chamberlain Student Center and campus activities, doesn’t have a clear answer either.
“At this time, no opening date is available, but we are getting closer,” said Lizza. “The Student Center team is prepared to operate the space as soon as we receive approval from facilities and the project manager.”
Andrew Oakley, the Assistant Vice President of Capital Facilities Construction, explained that inspections to make sure the building meets all of the safety codes were cause for the delay.
“These inspections have identified items the required corrective measures which have been completed,” he said. “We are awaiting the return of the inspector to provide final sign off on the building.”
The final sign off, anticipated for the next week, would be the end of the inspection process and after that, an opening date would be more tangible.
While the expansion work is still in progress, student-run organizations have been able to book space within the expansion, though with no opening date confirmed yet, they may have to seek alternative venues for events.
The Chamberlain Student Center will announce a ribbon-cutting ceremony and celebration when an opening date is confirmed.
