Rowan University offers a plethora of clubs and activities for students to join to fill their free time. While students can scroll through Proflink and try to find what fits their niche, there are many organizations that are overlooked. However, two best friends set out to educate Rowan University students on some of these underground clubs.
Kaitlyn Jennings, a senior psychology major, and her best friend, Kynedy Williams, a senior law and justice major, have set out to create a podcast meant to educate students on the clubs Rowan offers its students.
With three episodes out, the girls sit alongside club leaders and discuss all the things regarding their club in their podcast, Rowan Club Chat.
Many best friends dream of having their own podcast, and it begs the question of how the girls can make a podcast for their university.
“Basically, it was through admissions. So Kynedy and I both work at admissions, and they said over the summer, ‘Hey, we’re looking for a podcast to showcase on new clubs or different clubs and organizations on campus’, and with Kynedy and I being best friends since freshman year, we were like, we have to do this together,” said Jennings, co-host of Rowan Club Chat.
It’s no secret that creating a podcast can be challenging, especially for two busy girls heavily involved on their college campus, but with the help of their team, they are able to produce podcast episodes for the student body.
“So they basically set up everything before we get there… Our team will do a document for us with the club that’s coming, and different talking points to do…It’s just conversation starters and everything like that. So other than that, we take a couple pictures with the person, and then we do a show, and that’s pretty much it,” said Jennings.
After being told about the possible podcast idea through admissions, the girls knew that their friendship and involvement on campus would make for great podcast hosts. While the girls sit across from each other during the filming of their podcast, their friendship goes beyond the set of Rowan Club Chat.
The seniors met freshman year and quickly formed a friendship after connecting in a class and attending Rowan events, according to Jennings.
Clubs and organizations are a crucial part of the college experience, but many of these organizations go unnoticed. However, with the friendship of two involved college students, clubs can make their voices heard and can advertise their club through Rowan Club Chat. Club leaders can sit alongside Jennings and Williams by filling out a form that can be found on their Instagram, @rowanuclubchat.
To watch Rowan Club Chat, students can visit Club Chat on PodBean or the Rowan University YouTube channel.
