The Rowan men’s indoor track and field team concluded up two events this past weekend on Friday at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational hosted by Boston University and the Widener Indoor Classic held at Penn’s Ott Center on Saturday.
During the two meets, the Profs had some recording-breaking performances and achieved some impressive PRs.
Head coach Dustin Dimit is extremely pleased with how the team has been competing at the meets as of late.
“ We’re really happy with the performances, a bunch of lifetime bests, season bests,” said Dimit. “In our sport, everything kind of leads up to the meets at the end of the year, that’s when you want to be running your fastest, or jumping your highest.”
Freshman Rajahn Dixon broke the school’s indoor record in the 200 meters at the Valentine Invitational (21.53), breaking the 26-year-old time (21.56) held by Rowan alumni Rich Dixon. Dixon was surprised when he found out he had broken the record.
“ I was a little surprised because at first, they told me that, the record was faster than what it was before,” said Dixon. “I thought I didn’t break it at first. Later in the day, I realized that I actually did break it because they told me like the wrong record.”
Senior Dominic George achieved a personal best in the 60 meters (7.03) and in the 200 meters (22.38) at the Widener Indoor Classic. George explains how he is always competing against himself when he is at the meets.
“ Keeping it very simple and just knowing what I’m capable of doing and really competing against myself and executing the vision I set out in my mind,” said George.
Dimit has been the coach for the Rowan men’s indoor track and field team for ten years at Rowan University and is extremely proud to be a part of the program.
“ The people who came before him helped establish a good culture,” said Dimit. “They’ve embraced it and continued to add to that legacy and to add to what it means to be part of the program.”
The Profs will be back in action this weekend at the Ott Center at the University of Pennsylvania to compete in the 2025 New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Championships beginning on Saturday, Feb. 22. Dimit is ready to bring another NJAC championship back to Glassboro this weekend.
“ We feel like we’re right on schedule for where we need to be to win for the 11th year in a row, 10th championship in COVID but, we definitely feel like we’re set up well for that,” said Dimit. “We’re really looking forward to that competition, bringing out the best in our guys and, going out and having a great meet and hopefully coming home with some more hardware.”
