Lebron James is somehow playing like he just got redrafted. In his 22nd year, James is averaging 24.7 points a game, 7.7 rebounds, and 8.8 assists per game this season. Amazingly, James is 40 years old and still is a must-see on TV.
Over the last 10 games, James has been averaging 28.7 points per game. In a win over the Portland Trail Blazers, James scored 40 points. His performance at 40 years old not only motivates the younger players but also puts a big wrinkle into the G.O.A.T debate between him and Michael Jordan.
While a lot of people love to discuss who the G.O.A.T. of basketball is, it just depends on if people would have James at one or Jordan at one. Jordan and James’ stats are very similar, but the edge I would give James over this is how dominant he is playing in his 22nd year, putting up MVP numbers in games, and also having the Lakers in contention almost every year which has been fun to watch. The Los Angeles Lakers are currently fourth in the West (34-21) and are must-see content thanks to the new pairing of James and Luka Dončić.
I would give James the edge in the G.O.A.T. debate in my opinion because of how dominant he is at 40 years old. I think that one more ring would cement James’ legacy as the greatest NBA player of all time. If James does win the championship this year and continues to put up MVP numbers, then I do think people would switch their minds to James being the G.O.A.T.
There is a lot of pressure either way on James to win every single year in the league because of how dominant of a player he is, so we will find out for the rest of the season and into the playoffs if James keeps putting up MVP numbers in his 22nd season and if he will win his fifth championship, which could be his final season maybe or maybe not.
