The Rowan men’s indoor track and field team had a bunch of athletes compete in the FastTrack Last Chance Invite on Friday, Feb. 28, at the Ocean Breeze Complex in Staten Island, NY.
While the Profs didn’t have the full team competing at the meet, they were still able to achieve some PRs and season bests. Head coach Dustin Dimit was pleased with the results and was happy with the season-bests from his team.
“ We’re happy with performances,” said Dimit. “Had a couple season bests and had people, you know, kind of wrap up their indoor seasons that weren’t moving on and you know, they’ll get ready for outdoors, but overall a good meet.”
The Profs were led by freshman Noah Wampole who claimed first place in the high jumps (1.99). Wampole was extremely happy to place first and was excited to have his first official win in college.
“Very excited to get first and even though this meet was not as deep as normal, it still feels great to win and this one will always be special because it was my first official win in college,” said Wampole.
Rowan finished in second place in the pole vault as junior Max Owens achieved a personal best with a time of 4.60. Owens credits his new approach to pole vaulting for his PR.
“It had been a while since my previous PR,” said Owens. “I was running from a further approach with a larger pole and everything happened to work out in the jump.”
Some other highlights from the day were senior Caleb Clevenger took home a new PR in the 3000 meters (8:52.06) and junior Michael Lawrence ran his second-fastest indoor time in the 200 meters (22.42).
With this being the last meet that some of the players will partake in until the outdoor season, Dimit’s message to the team was straight forward.
“Good work and for the guys that were done, you know, good job on the season, and let’s get ready for outdoor,” said Dimit.
The Profs will be back in action on Friday and Saturday in the All-Atlantic Region Track and Field Conference (AARTFC) from Ithaca College in Ithaca, NY. Dimit is ready to see the team have a successful meet this weekend.
“ We’re excited,” said Dimit. “We think people are gonna continue to drop time and prepare well for nationals. The guys that are going there and hopefully get a couple more qualifiers there. But everybody looks good and we finally got some good weather, so that helps to have some nice practices outside.”
