One of Rowan Boulevard’s most beloved spots, Cookie Munchers, recently announced that they’d be refreshing their store in a collaboration with Philly Pretzel Factory.
Cookie Munchers announced on social media that will be closed starting March 17 until March 20, as the store will be going under a slight redesign, specifically repainting the walls and remodeling the floor.
Cookie Munchers first opened up on Rowan Boulevard back in Nov. 2017 by Rowan alumni Brandon Lucante and Cassie Aran, first starting the brand shortly after graduating from Rowan in 2016. Following the success of their Glassboro location, Lucante and Aran would sell their shares in the company.
The partnership between Cookie Munchers and Philly Pretzel Factory has been in the works for about a year now, according to a reply from Cookie Munchers to a comment on their official Facebook page. Arthur “Bob” Tilton, the new owner of Cookie Munchers, also currently owns the Philly Pretzel Factory locations in Mount Ephraim, Deptford, and Sewell, the Sewell location being the one that holds a majority of the contracts with Rowan.
There was previously a Philly Pretzel Factory in Glassboro on Delsea Drive, though it has since been permanently shut down and replaced with Optimal Nutrition. The Philly Pretzel Factory on Rowan Boulevard will sell pretzel twists and pretzel rivet trays. Additionally, they’ll also be selling frozen treats such as slushies.
The current cookie display will remain the same, though they will be adding a spot to keep freshly made soft pretzels right next to it. Most of the outside appearance of the store won’t change, including the original Cookie Munchers sign above the door as well as the windows. The store will be closed for the week of St. Patrick’s Day, but should open back up as both a Cookie Munchers and a Philly Pretzel Factory by that Friday.
Once Cookie Munchers re-opens, regular patrons of the spot will notice the removal of their usual “As Big As Your Face” cookies. The store’s bigger-sized cookies will be replaced with smaller, slightly thicker ones. The implementation of smaller cookies, however, will also open the door for Cookie Munchers to introduce a product that many store regulars have been clamoring for: cookie ice cream sandwiches.
“Right now, we have the a la mode, which is two scoops of ice cream on top of the cookie. A lot of people ask about cookie sandwiches, our cookies are too big and they’re a little bit thinner. It makes it harder to do, so we’ll be able to have cookie sandwiches then,” said Amber Curry, the manager at Cookie Munchers. “I have been here for five years, so I’m sad to see the big cookies go, but I’ve worked really hard on the small cookies, so I really hope they go off without a hitch.”
Many students, including freshman history education major and avid Cookie Munchers fan Kenny Hayes, are excited for a Philly Pretzel Factory to be added to the popular cookie shop.
“I find it amazing. I mean, it’s another dining option on campus,” said Hayes. “And having a Philly Pretzel Factory will be a good late-night spot, but it’ll also help student organizations fundraise better in the future.”
