On Wednesday, March 5, the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) announced its 2024-25 men’s indoor track and field All-Conference teams, which features 28 Profs.
Freshman Rajahn Dixon was named the G. Larry James NJAC Most Outstanding Athlete of the Year. Dixon won the 200 meters in the NJAC Championship with a time of 21.34; breaking both the school record and event record. Dixon was blessed to see that all his hard work was paying off with this award.
“ It’s just good to see that my efforts are paying off in that when I do believe in myself, it actually works out,” said Dixon.
The Profs also took home the NJAC Rookie of the Year award as freshman Jamir Brown won the award. Brown won the 60-meter hurdles at the NJAC Championships with a time of 7.94. Brown’s success at such a young age isn’t something that comes around often.
“ That’s rare for freshmen to be able to do something like that,” said head coach Dustin Dimit.
Speaking of Dimit, he and his staff won the Oscar Moore NJAC Coaching Staff of the Year for the tenth year in a row. His staff includes Eric DuBois, Norm Tate, Milton Goode, John Oberg, Jassina Surles, Julian Pratt, Joseph Kalnas, and Seth Spicer Dimit, who is undefeated in the NJAC Indoor Championships, credits the consistency that his staff brings as a key factor of success.
“ Most of these coaches are with us for five-to-10 years and that consistency helps with our success,” said Dimit. “The program wouldn’t be anything without their dedication and hard work.”
On March 9, the NCAA announced that a bunch of student-athletes would be competing in the Division III Indoor Track & Field Championship, and while not all 28 Rowan athletes made it, 11 players did. Dimit is ecstatic about the amount of players that will be representing the brown and gold.
“ I think this is the largest group on the men’s side that we’ve taken indoors,” said Dimit.
The Profs will have four entries in the 60-meter hurdles as freshman – Jamir Brown, Jason Agyemang, Kwaku Nkrumah, and fifth-year student Marquise Young Agyemang, who was named the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Division III National Athlete of the Week expressed how important his start will be to have a good race.
“I know if I have a powerful start if I’m able to get out the blocks before everybody else, I’ll have a good race,” said Agyemang.
Dixon and Elijah Hendricks qualified in the 200 meters. Dixon will also join Young, Nana Agyemang, and Samael Milevoix in the 4×400 relay. Dixon credits his teammates for his ability to compete this weekend.
“ We’re always helping each other, trying to improve each other to get better,” said Dixon.
The other Profs being represented at the Division III Indoor Track and Field Championship will be junior Masai Byrd in the 60 meters, sophomore Jamile Gantt in the high jump, and sophomore Joshua Justin in the triple jump. Byrd is determined to leave with a national championship.
“ Showing that just because I’m ranked 19 doesn’t mean I’m not leaving without hardware,” said Byrd. “We’re doing something great at Rowan, so we’re going out there to show out.”
