Rowan men’s indoor track and field took home third place at the NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships on March 14 and 15 at Golisano Training Center in Rochester, New York.
The Profs finished the day with 32 points, Wisconsin-Oshkosh placed second with 39 points, and Wisconsin-LaCrosse claimed the national championship with 84 points.
While the Profs didn’t take home the national championship, they didn’t leave empty-handed. Junior Jason Agyemang secured a first-place finish in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 7.76, a new PR. The North Plainfield native was hungry to finish on top in the event.
“ I was hungry for it,” said Agyemang. “Last year, I got fourth place at indoor nationals. I was hungry to get that back. I came in second place at, outdoor nationals. I was also hungry to get that back.”
Agyemang became the fourth individual champion in Profs history and the first since 2017 when Dave Benjamin won the same event. In addition to Agyemang, the Profs also secured second, fourth, and fifth place in the 60-meter as freshman Jamir Brown (7.80), fifth-year student Marquise Young (7.83), and junior Kwaku Nkrumah (7.92) earned All-American honors.
Head coach Dustin Dimit, who was awarded the Metro Region Head Coach of the Year, was beyond proud of the performance from his hurdlers.
“And to be that close to the sweep, we were really proud of those guys,” said Dimit.
A key factor in the success of the hurdlers at the NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships was the guidance of assistant coach Norm Tate. Tate has been the assistant coach at Rowan University for 13 seasons, and he was extremely confident that one of his pupils would win the title.
“ I told him that Jason was gonna win it,” said Tate. “The previous day, he looked the best in the preliminary round, and I picked him to win it, although I was hoping that Marquis was going to upset him, all because that was his last year.”
Tate was selected as the 2025 United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) NCAA Division III Men’s Indoor Track & Field National Assistant Coach of the Year and was selected the Metro Region Head Assistant Coach of the Year. Something that Tate told the team at the beginning of the season was to be prepared at all times.
“I tell them all at the beginning of the year, I have a saying, don’t be upset by the results you get because of the work you didn’t do,” said Tate.
