Insomnia Cookies is preparing to open a location directly on Rowan Boulevard, bringing its signature late-night cookie delivery just a few steps away from the current local favorite, Cookie Munchers.
Insomnia Cookies, a national chain known for its warm cookies and ice cream pairings, promises a lineup of classic and deluxe flavors. The late-night cookie chain has been around for 20 years and will be located by the Whitney Center Building among the other retail stores on Rowan Boulevard, in the unit sandwiched between Yogo Factory and Oishii Ramen.
“We’re so excited to bring our warm cookie delivery to Glassboro. Our menu will include our fan-favorite classic cookies, deluxe cookies, brownies, and ice cream lineup of sought after limited-time only flavors throughout the year,” said Catherine Burns, senior marketing activities manager at Insomnia Cookies.
Currently, the cookie bakery brand focuses on traditionally smaller-sized cookies despite it offering larger deluxe cookies, something that Cookie Munchers differentiated on up until their reopening last week. As opposed to other cookie bakeries, Insomnia offers nationwide shipping on their website. Cookie Munchers offers deliveries through DoorDash, GrubHub and their website.
Despite the looming threat of a powerhouse competitor on the horizon, Cookie Munchers isn’t backing down, as current Cookie Munchers manager Amber Curry emphasized the shop’s deep ties to the Rowan community. Curry believes that the store’s fresh, in-house-made treats, a commitment to nut-free baking, and unique menu offerings such as à la Mode to-go will have loyal customers returning.
“I feel like our core customer base is Rowan students, and we’re pretty in with them,” Curry said. “We do a lot of events with them, interact with them on social media, and hold fundraisers where different campus organizations get a percentage of sales.”
In order to stay competitive, Cookie Munchers is also expanding its offerings, including a partnership with the Philly Pretzel Factory to add pretzel twists, rivets and mini hot dogs to their menu. However, supply chain delays have temporarily stalled these plans as the shop awaits an electrician to finalize equipment setup in order to ensure the circuit doesn’t blow when equipment gets turned on.
Curry also emphasized that Cookie Muncher’s biggest selling point is that all its cookies, cakes and dough are made in-store, unlike some chains that use pre-made dough. The establishment also has a nut free policy that provides a safer option for customers with allergies.
“For value, as in for your dollar, we’re definitely going to have the most value,” Curry said. “We very much care about what the customer wants and the community in general.”
