On Thursday, March 27, students gathered in room 121 in Business Hall to express gratitude for the women in their lives. Student organizations Prism, Women in Business, and Diversity, Inclusion, & Belonging in Business (DIBB) worked in collaboration to host a Letters to Her event to celebrate Women’s History Month.
The event provided students with a space to reflect on the women who have made a difference in their lives, or whom they simply appreciate.
Attendees were invited to enjoy pizza and soda while they reflected on the important women in their lives. Art supplies such as paper, pens, and stickers were provided for people to create cards for the women they wanted to address in honor of Women’s History Month.
Celebration months, such as Women’s History Month, highlight the importance of appreciating and honoring women, reminding individuals to recognize their contributions, value their voices, and celebrate their impact in all aspects of life.
These moments of gratitude help strengthen connections and inspire ongoing appreciation beyond the month of March.
“I hope that people will know that they’re appreciated, and know to appreciate the people that they love and care about every day,” said Aisha Cooper, junior marketing major and president of DIBB.
Cooper emphasized that appreciation should be expressed regularly, not just during dedicated times of celebration.
“I think that’s extremely important in the connections you make at Rowan, and the connections you make outside of Rowan, whether they’re business related or not,” said Cooper.
Expressing gratitude is a meaningful way to show your appreciation for someone in your life.
“I’m so grateful for all the women in my life. They uplift me, they make me better as a person. And I feel like this is a way of showing appreciation for that,” said Angela Jacob, a junior marketing major.
Beyond expressing gratitude, attendees also acknowledge the unseen challenges that women often face.
“If you have a woman in your life, no matter what they’re doing in their position, make sure that you recognize that they have to go through so much more behind the scenes,” said Despoina Pesiridou, junior finance major and president of Women In Business.
Attendees got the chance to share who they decided to write to in their cards in a video posted to the DIBB and Prism Instagram accounts to further show their appreciation and share it with others.
To make the letters even more special, tulips and goodie bags filled with candy were handed out to accompany the cards that were written for the women in their lives.
By the end of the event, students left with not only heartfelt messages for the women in their lives, but also a deeper understanding of the importance of recognizing and celebrating the impact of women every day.
