Nate Maiers threw for 239 yards with a career-high four passing touchdowns on Saturday in a dominant, 56-0, win over Moravian at Coach Richard Wackar Stadium. Nunes Bukula IV was on the receiving end of two of those touchdowns as the Profs shut out the Greyhounds and picked up their first win of the season.
“I thought we did a great job responding today in terms of playing a full speed, aggressive 60 minute game,” Head coach Pat Ruley said. “And that’s what I asked them[team] to do on both sides of the ball .”
Rowan’s 56-point outburst against Moravian was their biggest scoring performance at home since 2019. The Profs beat New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) rival Kean, 52-7, in October of that year.
“56 points, that doesn’t happen often,” Maiers said. “You’ve gotta cherish what this feeling’s like.”
Rowan’s offense got off to a hot start, scoring 35 points in the first half. They successfully scored on every drive they ran in the first two quarters, and were able to score three more times after halftime.
The Profs running backs also had a big day against the Greyhounds. Junior Tyshawn Bookman and freshman Mordecai Ford each ran for 100+ yards. Bukula IV scored twice off passes from Maiers in the second quarter, marking his third touchdown in his first two games.
Ruley says Bukula IV is someone to watch out for.
“I sound like a broken record, but, he’s going to be one of the best offensive skill players in the country,” Ruley said. “He has that ability. We use him in multiple ways, and he’s a nightmare to match up with. Whether it’s outside as a receiver or when running the football, he can do a ton of different things.”
The Greyhounds entered this matchup without their starting quarterback due to injury. And his absence was apparent in week two facing Rowan. Last week, Moravian was able to score 19 points in a loss to Muhlenberg. Against the Profs, they weren’t able to find the end zone once. The result for the Greyhounds was being shut out by an opponent for the first time since 2022.
Not only did Rowan get their first win against Moravian, but they played their first complete game of 2025.
Their season opener against Case Western Reserve last weekend was suspended in the third quarter following several weather delays. The result was a 17-17 tie, despite Rowan leading 17-14 with an entire quarter left to play.
Bukula IV says it felt good to get back on track with their week two win.
“As a team, I feel like we just played great,” Bukula IV said. “Especially with what happened last week, we were trying to get that win.”
Now, the Profs will enter the bye-week before travelling to Williamsport, Pa. to face Lycoming at Rick Person Field on Saturday, Sept. 27.
